🐈 Beat the Flea! 🐕‍🦺

🐾 Fleas are very common in untreated pets. Besides being extremely irritating, infestations can cause serious skin problems on your pet.

🐾 Fortunately, there are many effective flea and tick preventives available to help control fleas and prevent the spread. Many are "pour-on" (topical) products that are applied directly to your pet’s skin, but there are also products that are given orally (by mouth).

🐾 If your pet is not on a flea preventative, give us a call at 616-232-2244 to schedule an appointment and discuss the best product for your pet!

Do you know the signs of heat stroke? With the high temperatures here in Michigan, it is important to know the signs of heat stroke and what you can do to prevent it!

🔥Heatstroke can occur when the pet’s body temperature rises to a dangerous level. Pets do not sweat to cool down and instead rely on panting and limited sweating through their paw pads.

🔥Recognizing early heatstroke signs is crucial for effective intervention. Some common signs include excessive panting, drooling, rapid heartbeat, lethargy or weakness, confusion or disorientation, vomiting or diarrhea, and/or collapse or seizures.

🔥 If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, immediate action is critical. First, move your pet to a cool, shaded area or an air-conditioned space. Then, reach out to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital or your primary care veterinarian for further evaluation and care.

For those that have already visited us, you may have seen "The Veterinary Group" on the doors and brochures. Here is a little information about that!

🐾The “Veterinary Group” concept was developed in hopes of reducing the operating costs associated with running an animal hospital. The idea is to have two separate veterinary businesses operating independently while sharing the building’s overhead and equipment expenses.

🐾Affordable Veterinary Services Animal Hospital is owned by Dr. Sue Skelding, and Mercy Veterinary Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting animal shelters and rescues, is owned by Dr. Stacie Kreiser.

🐾To minimize our remodeling costs and comply with stringent building codes, we strategically repurposed building materials and used office dividers for exam rooms instead of constructing new walls. By salvaging and refurbishing materials, we not only reduced the expense of an architecturally designed remodel but also embraced sustainable practices.
