9/11 A day that will never be forgotten.

Today we also remember the canine responders who worked tirelessly to find victims of the tragedy and then used their talents as therapy dogs to assist those affected deeply by the crisis.

About 300 dog/handler search teams responded to 9/11, but only about 100 were prepared for the size of the disaster at Ground Zero.

This week we are showing off Chubb and Charlie! All rescues have had their shots, microchipping, and tested heartworm negative. The adoption fees for each of these super friendly dogs are $90.

We have three more pups for the Tribute Pet Memorial Services Adoption Series! Every month, we highlight a pet (or multiple pets!) that are available at the Darke County Animal Shelter.

This week we are showing off Emmy, Samantha, and Travis! All rescues have had their shots, microchipping, and tested heartworm negative. The adoption fee for Emmy is only $18 and the fees for Samantha and Travis are WAIVED, meaning they are ready for a new home today!

June's sweet pup of the month is Chewy!

Chewy is now retired from the very important position of greeter at Deb's Wildflowers! Deb’s is where he made many friends and fans. His favorite activities in retirement are camping and going for rides in his dad's rat rod! Chewy is 11 years old, but you would never guess it. He is sweet, loves attention, and will do a number of tricks for treats! His favorite kinds of treats are doggy ice cream and chicken & bacon flavored denta-stix! Congratulations Chewy! You are a Rockstar!

May the Butter🧈 be with you. The Tribute Pet of the Month for May is Butterscotch, a 5-year-old Calico. Called Butters for short, she enjoys playing with hair ties and chasing her toy shrimp around the living room. She mainly cares about playing in her whale-shaped house with her shrimp toy. She likes to lay in the sun, sleep in the bathroom closet on a blanket her great-grandmother got her, and cuddling on the couch with her mom in her soft blanket. Butter's favorite hobby consists of eating bread through plastic bags that sit on the counter when her mom forgets to put them away. She also enjoys letting her mom know when she is out of food by meowing her way around the house. Congratulations, Miss Butterscotch!

April’s Pet of the Month, Pipper, came by to collect her prize today!

April is the month of Pipper! Pipper is a Buff Silkie who hatched on October 31st, 2022. This chick has a very sweet disposition and loves to wear cute little hats with her mom, Lucinda! Fun fact, being a Silkie, she has dark blue/black toned skin and bones under her fluffy feathers! Also unlike other chickens, she has a fifth toe! Silkies are usually very friendly and they don't mind getting up close and personal with their favorite humans, in fact, they quite like being cuddled, kissed, and groomed, making them eggcellent pets for young children. Congratulation Pipper!

Congratulations to Zuko on being March’s Pet of the Month!

Zuko is a one year old German Shepherd named after Zuko from the TV show, “Avatar, the Last Airbender”. He loves to play fetch, eat shredded cheese, and play tug-of-war. Zuko loves to play with his mom and dad. Most importantly, he loves spending his time chasing the cats around the house!
