With the high temperatures continuing please use caution with your pets.
Pull down shades and close curtains to keep your house cool.
Keep fans running for air circulation if you don't have A/C.
Ensure there's plenty of clean water available for them to drink.
Keep outside time to potty breaks to keep the danger of heatstroke to a minimum.
Also, hot pavement and sidewalks can cause injury to paw pads.

Some info about pets and animals during tomorrow's eclipse...

We aren’t in the path of the eclipse here in FL but I’m seeing lots of questions on social media about what to do for your animals during the eclipse.

Animals do not tend to stare at the sun - they really don’t like bright light (remember, they have better night vision!) and just aren’t fascinated by celestial events like some of us are. You may see animals starting their nighttime routine - expecting dinner, to come in, etc. But in general, they really don’t care.

In areas where the full eclipse can be seen, there may be more humans/events going on - this can open up the chance for lost pets as people participate in festivities or are busy watching the eclipse and forget to close a door or lock a gate.

So, during the eclipse, be mindful. Keep routines the same. Close doors, lock gates.

If you can't comfortably rest the back of your hand on the pavement for five seconds, then it's too hot for a dog to walk on.
Walk in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler.
Limit outside time during the hottest parts of the day to quick potty breaks.
Leave your pets home and indoors in a cool space with fresh water available.
Here in NY the real feel is already 92° (and likely hitting 100° by noon). Real feel is the number I always reference.

Turn your inside and outside lights off on the evening of 10/8 - here's why...

According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, an estimated 1,982,900 birds flew over the state of New York last night. We're not kidding. On any given night during peak migration season, millions of birds are in flight across the country.

Sadly, the light pollution coming from our homes and cities has a significant impact on birds and their ability to migrate safely at night. For World Migratory Bird Day on October 8th, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Migratory Bird Program is encouraging you to reduce light pollution's impacts by "Dimming the Lights for Birds at Night!" By turning off your interior and exterior building lights at night, you can significantly reduce the chance for bird collisions, while also saving energy and money.
