So, in the past we’ve either had our horses vaccinated at the vet, or we’ve picked up the vaccinations at the vet’s office and then vaccinated at home.
Over the last couple of years, we started buying vaccines at local stores, you know, the ones that sell lots of farming supplies. Why not? Right? Save the drive time. Save a little money…
Never again. All it takes is one bad experience with an injection-site infection, and we’re done. We’ll still vaccinate at home, but we’ll only buy future vaccinations directly from the vet. It’s just not worth the risk.
$706.00 at the vet.
$17.00 at the pharmacy.
$62.39 for the online prescription. $100.00 for cold compresses, a new digital thermometer, Drawing Salve, and vet wrap.
Three hours drive time.
Two hours at the vet.
Two days of trying to reduce swelling and temperature before breaking down and going to the vet.
And fuel for our diesel truck. I don’t even want to know…
