Another section ready for winter! We do this because it helps keep weeds and diseases at bay and also creates mulch which helps winterize the bushes. This can also be done for others plants you may have at your home. But make sure your sawdust is made from Fir and not Cedar, which can be too acidic and isn’t good for plants. So Fir is best!

We are so thankful for the beautiful weather! We have been able to get outside and get so much done which is a blessing! More pruning done(lots of piles, lol) and 2 more sections are ready for sawdust (which comes tomorrow!)! It may not seem like much to some but when you are able to get things done that haven’t been able to be done as thoroughly as needed in a long time, it really is a good thing! And Farmer Marv is soooo happy!

It’s a bit hard to tell from these photos but these are huge piles of prunings. We have been working in the section that has 100 year old bushes. It has been a lot of work but next season these bushes will produce an amazing amount of berries. Next, we will be laying sawdust under each bush to help with insulation and help control weeds and those pesky blackberries in the coming spring. The plan is to do the whole field this fall and winter. Fingers crossed we are able to get it accomplished!
