Over the past two and a half decades, we have placed well over 8000 abandoned and homeless animals into permanent, loving homes, as well as spaying and neutering thousands and providing them with necessary medical treatment. And just as our journey began, it now ends. We have made many, many friends over the years, both human and canine. This has been such an incredible experience, filled with precious memories and the reward of making a difference in these precious animals' lives. So many of you still have the furry friends you adopted from us, and you will always be part of our SBK9 Rescue family.
We ask you to continue to support your local animal shelters and rescues.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us over these past 25 years and helping those who can’t help themselves. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to have served our wonderful communities.

Congratulations to Cammie. She found a wonderful new mom and dad. So happy for you sweet girl.

Please share this post. The power of sharing is how we find them!!!

One of our own is missing!!!
She got away on august 14, Monday. Her name is Trixie. She's 3 1/2 years old. Current Rabies, Micro chipped. Spay. About 55 lbs. Last seen off Hwy 70, about 7 miles north of Marysville. She won't bite, but, she is really scared. She is very very timid of people so probably won’t come to you, but if you do see her, please get a location and give us a call. .Possibly headed west toward Gridley.
Call 530-695-3814 or 530-300-4000

Her name is Tora Rose and as you can see, she is a gorgeous Abyssinian cat. She is seven years old. Tora's household has several dogs; they tend to want all the attention, and Tora is left out of the pack. This is unfair to her, and She needs a home where she can receive one-on-one attention and be able to be a free spirit. She has had the same owner since she was a kitten. Unfortunately, the owner's life has taken a different path, and she needs to find a loving home for this amazing cat. Tora Rose is highly intelligent and sweet. She is independent. but likes to approach you and love on you too. She is curious and graceful. She is not all over you like some cats. She enjoys a long session of ear rubbing. She is very easy and breezy to take care of with regard to her grooming. With her short fur and very minimal shedding, her owner brushes her once a week and she is ready to go. She is very unique and just a joy to be around. Tora loves to play, and her favorite game is chasing the foil ball and interacting with her owner. This girl acts like she is still a young teenager. This breed has a longevity history. She is a small cat, only weighing 8 lbs. The owner's other Abyssinian cats were on this earth until they were 16 and 17 years old. When you start snapping your fingers, she comes to you on command. She is very alert and in tune with her surroundings. She is strictly an inside cat. She does have a very large kitty condo that can be placed in the yard or on the patio so she can enjoy nature. She also has a very nice play yard and a cat tree that she enjoys hanging out in and she has a backpack kennel for transport. Her perfect home would be with an owner(s) who have a quieter home, with no dogs or other cats and no young children. She has never been around kids and has not had a fellow feline in the home for quite some time. Because the dogs are chasing her, she is very nervous around dogs and, at this point, deserves one-on-one attention. So, just her and her favorite person(s) is the PURFECT home for her. She is up to date on all her vaccines and has been spayed. If you think this amazing girl is right for you, visit our website at www.sbk9rescue.com to fill out an online application.

For many pets, the Fourth of July can be the most scary and terrifying day of the year for our furry friends. Please, don’t forget about comforting your pets during the fireworks.
****
( some tips from petmd and Sbk9 rescue, below)

Schedule a Pre-Fireworks Workout
Going for a long walk or spending time playing with your pets during the day will help wear out your dog before the fireworks begin.

A dog that’s mentally and physically exhausted might be less likely to react to fireworks, so plan a day of fun activities that will leave your dog ready for a snooze.

Schedule Meals and Potty Time Early
It’s important to time your dog’s dinner and potty trips well in advance of nightfall, since fireworks typically start as soon as the sun sets. There’s nothing worse than a dog that’s scared of fireworks that needs a potty break but is too terrified to step out the door.

Give your dog enough time to finish his dinner, digest, and potty before the noise begins so he’s not forced to hold it during an already stressful period.

Keep Your Pup Occupied During Fireworks

Provide distraction by giving your dog something delicious to focus on during fireworks, like a KONG Classic dog toy. Stuff the busy toy with special goodies like your dog’s all-time favorite treat so that he has something else to focus on during the noise.

Your dog is scared and needs your comfort. Just sitting with your pet and being calm and petting them will help to reduce some of the anxiety.
Make sure to have a discussion with your children, so they understand that your pet is afraid. If they are running in and out of the house, there is a chance that your pet could become frightened, and bolt out the door. Please keep your pets safe, so this can’t happen.

If you are enjoying a get together with friends, having a barbecue and participating in the party foods, be aware that your pet may accidentally ingest something that could be harmful and even toxic! Keep alcoholic beverages away from your pet, and chicken bones, rib bones, Chocolates, Coffee and anything containing caffeine,Baked beans,Grapes, raisins
Onions, garlic, and chives
Anything containing xylitol.

Sometimes we forget that Our furry friends are outside, laying underneath the table, waiting for some food to drop. During the festivities, it is very difficult to keep an eye on Fido, and the children. So put Fido in a safe place, while you are enjoying the holiday.

Be safe, Facebook friends !!

Please, keep your dog safe during the Fourth of July. Most dogs experience, severe anxiety when it comes to fireworks. There are some things that you can do to help.

Place your dog where (hopefully) they will feel comfortable. You should get your pet used to a calming environment beforehand. Dogs are den animals — they’re looking for that cave to get away from it all.

Try setting up an area in a quiet space away from windows — such as a basement or a larger closet — so that they can’t hear or see fireworks. Use a crate if that’s where your dog feels safe, and make sure to provide your pup with familiar toys and treats freeze bone broth in ice cube trays).

Whether for the Fourth of July, New Year’s Eve, or another celebration, many dog owners deal with howling, barking, and generally anxious dogs during fireworks. It’s even largely believed that Independence Day is the day when the highest number of dogs run away. But just what are the dogs afraid of?

“It can be the smell. It can be the noise and the flashes of the light,” says Woodstown, New Jersey-based Dr. Judy Morgan, DVM, of Dr. Judy Morgan’s Naturally Healthy Pets. Your dog may “tremble, shake, shiver, howl, and bark — some of them get frantic.”

If you are unsure of how your new dog might react, Morgan says that pups that don’t cope well during thunderstorms are likely to get scared of fireworks. The good news is that there are steps you can take to help your dog. Here are nine expert-approved tips to prevent your dog from freaking out during fireworks.

1. Keep Your Dog Away From Fireworks
“First of all, don’t take your dogs to fireworks shows,” says Morgan. “And don’t leave them outside during fireworks.” Keeping your dog inside on the evening in question is the best idea, especially if you fear they might not react well.

2. Make Sure Your Pet Has Proper ID
Ensure that the information on your pet’s collar is current and make sure your dog is microchipped and has a GPS device. “If they escape, there’s a better chance they’ll get returned.

Try setting up an area in a quiet space away from windows — such as a basement or a larger closet — so that they can’t hear or see fireworks. Use a crate if that’s where your dog feels safe, and make sure to provide your pup with familiar toys an freeze bone broth in ice cube trays).

4. Play White Noise
You can try leaving a fan, TV, or radio on to help mask the sounds of the fireworks. “There’s some classical music called ‘Through a Dog’s Ear’ that has been shown to have calming effects for dogs,” says Jenn Stanley, certified behavior consultant and professional dog trainer, and co-owner of Awesome Pawsabilities Pet Training & Behavior Consultations, based in North Carolina.

5. Comfort Your Dog
If you can, try staying home with your dog or leaving them in the hands of a trusted person. One of Morgan’s relatives usually stays with her dog in the closet to help soothe the animal.

“You absolutely can and should comfort your dog if he’s afraid,” says Stanley. “The key here is in how you do so. It’s important to remain calm and use a soothing, even tone. Petting them can be comforting — long, slow, firm strokes along the length of their body are typically very soothing.”

The one thing to avoid? Seeming frantic in any way, says Stanley. Rapidly saying, “It’s OK, it’s OK, it’s OK” in a higher-than-average pitch may make your dog think that there really is something to fear. Try your best to remain calm and reassuring to help your dog to stay calm!

If you can talk to your neighbors, and maybe have one designated area for fireworks, rather than all over the neighborhood. Every year, my dog is so severely affected by fireworks that he begins to vomit, get some spaces that I can’t even find him. This is so sad and unnecessary. We need people to realize that animals are very sensitive to those and to use common sense when lighting fireworks. another issue, seems that people feel the need to light fireworks to in three days after the Fourth of July. Yes, please… Think about the animals.
Enjoy the holiday, but please… Please… Think about these innocent animals that are absolutely terrifying. cte
