Amazing what you can produce on 1/3 of an acre. Just the tip of the iceberg.

I think there are certain things that go into making a house a home. Chief among these things is food. Food in our home is important and our homestead-ish lifestyle was born out of the desire to connect deeply with those things that nourish us. It started with our garden, small as it is. That led to need for good quality compost. Why not just get the rabbits my dad had been at me to get? We’ll have an endless supply of manure and as much meat as we want to breed and butcher. We now manage a heard of 15 or so New Zealands, Silver Foxes, and Rexs. (Plus a few pet rabbits for good measure!) I wanted eggs. My wife doesn’t want chickens nor a fight with code enforcement. I came home with a small flock of quail. We still argue about that sometimes, but quail is damn good on a grill so that usually wins out. I dream of more land, larger crops, and as much livestock as I could manage, but I love our home. We are connected to it. It provides, it sustains, and we thrive. I look forward to learn and growing with it.
