Stella rode Sassy in her lesson today. I’m very pleased with both of their progress! I see Stella is gaining nice control of her leg (keeping it from swinging and heels staying down) and she’s also keeping light hands with light tension on the reins 👏 keep up the good work Stella! Y’all are coming right along!
This week Tybee got to try Big Moe out. She’s really getting her rhythm down in the posting trot 👏👏
Casey made a nice little pass on Moe at open arena today 👏 look forward to seeing him get stronger as he gets legged up.
When your trainer rides your horse it’s a test to see all the things you’ve been doing right and wrong. Swinger made a couple boo boo runs with Kinley pulling off the first barrel and running back to the start line (alley way) completely missing the rest of their run. He’s also blown wide off the second and third barrel. It’s hard to put a run together under pressure when your nerves are still high so I made a run at a jackpot on Swinger to give him a confident finished run under pressure. He showed up and showed out winning second in the 2D last night with a 15.8 second time. A 15.2 won the barrel race. So here’s what I felt last night. My student has absolutely been doing something right in her slow work. He’s running straight to his barrels, rating his turns and working a ton in the turn. He was a little strong on the bit and did try to run to the left side of the second barrel where I had to do what no barrel racer should do and pulled the outside rein to get him over. I did NOT expect him to commit to the second barrel like he did at that point. But he came back to my hand despite my sloppy seat and leg back in his hip (my bad) then got a little strong on three but felt my seat and hand and made a decent turn. It takes proper schooling throughout the week to make it all easy in a run and this was not an easy run so there’s some work to be done there; I say that lightly bc there isn’t much. I say all of this to end with, I’m very happy with all that Kinley has marinated on and put into practice. When she gains the strength and muscle memory to make a run with speed, it’s going to be a beautiful match. I’m so glad this family purchased one of my most prized possessions and is doing so well. We have a game plan and I look forward to seeing it all continue to come together. THANKS FOR THE RIDE SWINGER! Your old Mama had fun and still feeling blessed to be a part of the journey.
Stella rode Moe’s big stride so well in today’s lesson 🙌
