✨ That’s a wrap — and what a year it’s been! ✨

As we close for the holiday season and prepare to reopen on January 2nd, we’re taking a moment to reflect on an incredible year of growth, teamwork, and community support.

This year brought some exciting milestones:

📣 We welcomed Dr. George to our team and added four new team members, effectively doubling our staff.

🥳 Expanded our availability and are now open on Wednesdays to better serve our clients.

🐱 Partnered with local organizations to spay/neuter 180 stray and feral cats.

🐰 Continued caring for a diverse patient population: 65% cats & dogs and 35% exotics, including reptiles, small mammals, birds, and wildlife.

🐺 Celebrated Dr. Sam receiving the Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation Support from the Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitators Association.

🥰 Were honored to be named 2nd place in Grove City’s “Best of 2025” Veterinary Hospitals through BusinessRate, recognized for outstanding customer satisfaction based on recent client reviews.

We are incredibly grateful for our amazing clients who trust us with their beloved family members and for a team that shows up every day with compassion and dedication. This recognition — and this year — wouldn’t have been possible without you.

What a wonderful way to end the year. 💛
We wish you all a joyful holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the new year!✨

During our closure, we will be checking messages intermittently. If you experience an emergency, please visit the following link for emergency care options:

We stopped by Battelle Darby Metro Park this week for the ambassador animals’ annual check-ups. Always a joy to care for these special wildlife residents! (And we're very glad they do go to the vet!) 🐸🐢🐍🦎

We’re proud to share that this past weekend at the Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (OWRA) Annual Conference, Dr. Valerius was honored with the Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation Support 🏆 and was also recognized for his work on the Ashtabula cruelty case in January, alongside many dedicated animal advocates.

He also presented at the conference, sharing his expertise on veterinary regulations in wildlife rehabilitation — an important topic for rehabilitators and veterinarians who care for Ohio’s wildlife.

We’re grateful for his dedication to supporting wildlife and the broader rehabilitation community! 🦉🦆🦝

🦇💛 Bob the Bat is here to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween!
Remember to keep candy and chocolate out of paw’s reach — they’re sweet for us, but not for our furry friends. 🍬🐾
Snuggles, not stomachaches, make the best treats! 🎃✨

🐾 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month

Here in Ohio, lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 252 (SB 252), which would ban declawing cats except when medically necessary. Declawing isn’t just a “nail trim”—it’s a painful surgery with lifelong effects. Here are some myths we hear often:

❌ Myth: Declawing is just like trimming nails.
✅ Fact: Declawing is an amputation of the last bone in each toe—the equivalent of cutting off a human finger at the last joint.

❌ Myth: Declawing solves scratching problems.
✅ Fact: While scratching may stop, declawed cats are far more likely to bite and to urinate outside the litter box—two of the biggest reasons cats are surrendered to shelters.

❌ Myth: If cats aren’t declawed, they’ll end up in shelters.
✅ Fact: In areas where declawing is banned (like British Columbia), shelter intake and euthanasia did not increase—in fact, both decreased, and cats were adopted faster.

❌ Myth: Declawing doesn’t cause lasting harm.
✅ Fact: Declawed cats are at higher risk for chronic pain, arthritis, and back problems, as well as behavioral problems like biting and not using the litter box.

❌ Myth: Cats need to be declawed to live safely indoors.
✅ Fact: Cats need their claws for balance, stretching, climbing, and emotional health. Safe alternatives like scratching posts and nail trims protect furniture without harming your cat.

💜 This Animal Pain Awareness Month (and every month), let’s stand against unnecessary suffering. Declawing doesn’t protect cats—it harms them.

Not your average lunch at our hospital! 🥚Courtesy of Muddy Boots, our vet team cracked open an ostrich egg – the equivalent of about 24 chicken eggs in one shell! It was egg-stra big, egg-stra fun, and a great reminder that animals come in all shapes and sizes. 🐦
