With the upcoming extreme heat wave it is important to remember that any warm days can pose a danger to our beloved furbabies! Just remember that the pavement heats up and retains the heat for hours. If you cannot place you hand palm down and hold for a full 10 seconds then it is TOO HOT for your pets paws. Paw burns are very serious! On warmer days try to walk your dogs early or later on in the day. Walk on the grass if it's later in the day. Avoid sand. When in doubt don't go out!!

Cars!!! This is the biggest thing I see every year!!! Your car heats up quickly. It's only takes minutes for a dog to start to experience heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Dogs die every year from being left in hot cars. Even 5 minutes can be the difference between life and death! Please be responsible and research the dangers of heat. IF YOU SEE A DOG LOCKED IN A HOT CAR CALL THE POLICE!! You can be the difference between that dog living or dying.

Pay attention to your pups behavior, water intake, panting, etc... Everyone stay cool and safe this summer!! 😎 ☀️🐕🐾

Blue here 👋🏼 I love it when Jess visits and takes me for walks! I get to bounce around and sniff and look for bunnies! I think my favorite part, though, is when we come back and I get my treat! I love to give not just one paw but both!! 🐕🐾

*They are one of the most popular hybrid dog breeds in Australia

Emma loves our visits when her family is away! She has two new kitty pals named Scoutt and Atticus! We became quick friends. The two kittens are so silly and curious! They love sitting at the screen door while Emma and I are outside 🐾❤️

Happy Friday to all of our Happy Paws! It is Fun Fact Friday!! Today we are going to learn about mental stimulation for our furry friends!

Mental stimulation is crucial for dogs and cats' wellbeing!

Facts:
*There are a lot of benefits including improving mental health, improving cognitive function, building confidence, releasing stress, eliminate destructive behaviors, decrease hyperactivity, and tire them out.
*You also are getting to bond with your furry friend!
*Mentally stimulated dogs and cats tend to be more attentive, perform better in training, and they tend to be quicker at solving problematic daily tasks.
* Pets that do not get enough mental enrichment can become bored, frustrated, anxious, and depressed. You may notice excessive barking, restlessness, destruction of items, sleeping more often than normal, excessive grooming, and even chewing on their paws.

Ways to help mentally stimulate your dog and your cat!
*** Sniffing is highly encouraged! ***
(Make sure to always supervise your pets!)

*Play with them and change up the toys
*Supply pet puzzles
*Snuffle mats
*Slow feeder
*Lick it mats or a Kong
*Find it (a treat finding game)
*Teach your pet new tricks and practice old ones
*Go for walks in new locations and allow your dog to thoroughly sniff
*Train your dog to do scent work

Animals need at least 10 to 15 minutes of mental stimulation a day. Going on walks at new places and allowing your dog to explore and sniff away is always ideal! On those bad weather days or even if your pet just needs some extra mental stimulation make sure to try some fun new methods out! A healthy pet is a happy one!

Meet our newest, furbuddies, Koda and Arya! Koda is one of the most curious kitties I have ever met! He absolutely has to be the center of attention and loves to launch himself and climb on you while you're doing chores around the house, haha. His sister Arya is much more laud back. She loves to nap and relax in her cubby ♥️🐾

A friendly reminder to all of our Happy Paws: Try to exercise caution this afternoon between the hours of 2 and 4 during the solar eclipse. Although it is unlikely that your dog may look up at the sun. It's best to be cautious and try to avoid going out if it's not necessary between those hours. Have a great eclipse everyone!!
