It’s been quite the fall this year, both the season and the waterfall. The oaks and maples perfectly coordinated their colors over the past few weeks, while Yosemite Falls has just… kept… on… going. Usually, the waterfall dries up every year in late August to early September, but the record snowpack from the previous winter plus the rains earlier this season have kept something in it thus far, even if just a damp streak on the wall. With this most recent storm rejuvenating it some, we’ll see if it's enough to keep it going through the calendar year.

Lost Human

Have you seen my human? I let my owner know we’d be leaving Groveland around 6:30 am and heading east on SR-120 toward Yosemite, but my owner ended up not taking the excursion with me.

CHP stopped me near Inspiration Drive and told me I couldn’t continue alone. I was hesitant to get in the back of the CHP car, but the officer told me that’s normal, so in I went. I’m very sweet and missing my human. If you know my owner, please let them know I’m at Tuolumne County Animal Control in Jamestown.

Temperatures are rising again this weekend, which could lead to another round of power outages.

The District Team will be opening the office over the weekend to offer a cooling and charging station to anyone in need in the event of a power outage.

We will supply water and seating and will be happy to assist anyone needing it with getting situated and comfortable inside.

🛣️🌲 The Prettiest Road in the World 🌲🛣️

Isn’t this the most lovely blacktop you’ve ever seen? And we’re not talking about the greenery around it! No, this stretch of open road is gorgeous because it’s the newly reconstructed Big Oak Flat Road into Yosemite National Park and it’s now OPEN!!!

That’s right y’all! After more than one month of being closed, Highway 120 into Yosemite is open for business as of this morning. So grab your buddies and head up the hill! We’re open from 11 am to 10 pm today (kitchen closes at 9 pm) so stop for lunch on your way into Yosemite and grab some to-go beer on your way out.

We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the contractors, road crews, and Yosemite personnel who have been working around the clock to make this happen. The small businesses and families in this little mountain town are grateful for your efforts!

My grand dog, Parker, is currently 11th in the AKC FastCAT rankings.

Big Oak Flat Road (continuation of Highway 120 west into Yosemite) is closed from just inside the park boundary to Merced Grove. The road will be closed at least until mid-June and possibly into July. We are working with the Federal Highway Administration to start repairs as soon as possible.

Visitors entering Yosemite via Highway 120 from the west can reach Hodgdon Meadow and Hetch Hetchy, but not other areas of the park (including Yosemite Valley).

From Yosemite Valley, visitors can drive up the Big Oak Flat Road to reach the Tuolumne and Merced Groves of Giant Sequoias.

The road has a crack that is about 200 feet long and up to four feet deep. The road surface has moved two to three inches vertically and horizontally and is continuing to move. The embankment below the road has moved as much as 15 feet downslope and has significant water flow through it. It is not safe to open the road even to limited traffic, and doing so would likely lead to additional road failure.

If you’re planning on visiting Yosemite on a weekend in February to see this waterfall - or anything else in the park - set your alarms for tomorrow morning! Yes, tomorrow, January 13, at 8 am Pacific Time the first 50% of reservations for the last three weekends in February (i.e., Feb. 10-12, 17-19, and 24-26) become available online at Recreation.gov. The remaining 50% will be released at 8 am Pacific Time two days before the reservation date (e.g., the remaining 50% for February 10 become available 8 am on February 8.) No reservations are required for the first weekend in February (Feb. 3-5).

If you first arrive Mondays through Thursdays (and keep the receipt), you won’t need a reservation as the $35/vehicle entrance fee is valid for seven consecutive days, regardless of day of arrival. Also, if you have lodging reservations in Yosemite Valley, Wawona, Foresta, or Yosemite West, or campground reservations in Upper Pines, Camp 4, Wawona, or Hodgdon Meadow Campgrounds, you won’t need an additional reservation.

For further questions regarding the entrance reservation system for the Horsetail Fall event in February, please check our FAQ here: www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm.

This reservation is in place during the Horsetail Fall event, which you can learn more about at www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/horsetailfall.htm.
