Hi Friends! My name is Duke!
I was found roaming the streets by a Good Samaritan who noticed that I was bumping into things. I was taken to the local shelter and due to the condition of my eyes, I was put on the euthanasia list or adoptable only to a rescue. That’s when my friends at The Animal League saw me and knew they could help me! They rushed to claim me and I was brought to their facility.
They took me to a top-notch eye doctor for just for doggies and kitties, did you know they had such thing? Dr. Priehs determined that I have glaucoma and have had it for some time. My eyes were bulging so badly and my glaucoma so severe, that I have lost all sight and do not even see shadows. I could not even close my eyelids. He said I likely had a really bad headache from the pressure in my eyes too.
I was given eye drops that were so soothing and helped to reduce some of the pressure, and while they look and feel some better, I still cannot see and never will. But not to worry, my other senses have become more powerful and I have adapted like a champ.
While I could continue on the drops for the rest of my life, the Dr. recommended that they remove my eyes so that I would be much more comfortable and my all day/every day headache will be gone. I am having a bilateral enucleation on April 30. My surgery is expected to cost $2,081.
I have a wonderful foster lined up where I will go same day after surgery and she will help make sure that I have all of my pain medication and antibiotics, and maybe an extra snack or two or three! After I am healed up, I am hoping to find my forever family and live the good life!
I would be so grateful if you were able to help, every little bit counts, and goes a long way.
