A little bit of life coming back.

10/02/2020

We are closed for repairs and upgrades. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause anyone. In the coming months we will be busy preparing a new venue with Goodman Gardens in Navarre by the Walmart supercenter and look forward to your support. We look forward to being able to assist you with a bigger/more efficient facility and more options through a trusted business relationship(including ornamentals, landscaping plants, natives, and more).

We have issued refunds to those who prepaid for fall seedlings, please check your bank statements. If there are any issues we will assist you in getting it taken care of. Any of the seedlings that end up making it through will be given out on a first come first served basis with for free due to the stress the plants have accumulated over the past few weeks. We cannot guarantee that they will be strong enough to produce healthy plants and they may require a little TLC.

We are still here for any questions you may have but we do not foresee a winter crop worth distributing due to damages from the recent hurricane and the time it takes to re-establish our nitrifying bacteria colonies (that's what converts the fish waste to plant food).

We look forward to keeping in touch with you all and watching your own progress. We are here to help you succeed. Our philosophy is not to make you dependant on us for seedlings or produce but to be able to help you grow your own healthy food with a much higher nutritional content than store bought produce.

Check out this guy we caught weathering the storm in our greenhouse.

We have no idea what kind of moth (I say maybe a blinded sphinx moth) BUT it was stunning!

Any ideas?

Sterilizing our media for the fall season.

This is our flood and drain system with a bell siphon.

It's about 720lbs of 3 different types and sizes medias.

Our base layer consists of a natural undyed lava rock for it's porousness, which gives our nitrifying bacteria lots of room to colonize. For those who don't know, nitrifying bacteria is what converts our fish waste into plant food.

Our second layer consists of a river rock, smaller than the lava rock but smooth. This is our main root growth area so we want to make sure our roots have lots of smooth surface to climb through.

Finally our top layer consists of clay pebbles, smaller than the previous, smooth but also porous. This is the area that our sensitive seedlings are transplanted into. Now, this layer doesn't get completely submerged so the porousness allows it to have some wicking capability so it doesn't dry out around the roots of our seedlings.

This also gives us a chance to clean out old roots, check our worm population, and clean up our water quality for our fish by removing any solids that have gotten past our filter and have started building anaerobic areas in our bed.

If anyone would like some let us know. We have more than we care to plant and don't want to have to compost them.

Brought some multi colored Chinese spinach/armaranth to the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge.

I also got a nice little tour of their facilities and I have to say this place is outstanding!!!

They specialize in rehabilitation and release (if the animal qualifies). They have kept most of their property flourishing with native plants, fruits, and berries.

We look forward to continuing to contribute to your great cause.

We found some leaf footed bug eggs on one of our plants today and we wanted to take this opportunity to help some of the new gardeners. These grow into those nasty little nymphs that closely resemble the assassin bug nymphs.

Quick tips to tell them apart :

1) Assassin bug nymphss are mostly solitary and will not congregate.
2) Assassin bug nymphs have a sharp black beak that can be seen from a front lower angle against their orange skin.
3) Assassin bug nymphs have white dots along the ridges of their backs.
