Snakes can also be ON the BEACH!!!

It’s reptile season and most of them can be hidden from us even in plain sight they often blend in with their surroundings. It’s a good idea to always take a flash light when taking dogs out at night, and always watch where you put your feet, even in daylight and well lit areas. We had two cotton mouths in our yard two days ago, and this lizard yesterday. Lizards are welcome, snakes are not!!

My sassy Cali Cat. Her mom was dumped in our neighborhood, she was pregnant with Cali and 4 others, she gave birth to them underneath an old shed. A neighbor and I managed to rescue them all and put them in a kennel under her carport. The neighbor agreed to keep them at her house and I agreed to help her socialize them and find homes for them.

Within just a few hours after putting them in the kennel my neighbor asked me if I could come back and help her figure out what to do. There were owls swooping down at the kennel. When I I got to my neighbor’s yard there were 6 huge barn owls lined up from her cake line to two oak trees. I had never seen so many owls in one place. It was quite a spooky sight. There are many accounts of large birds of prey taking small dogs and cats. We couldn’t leave them there to become a meal for the owls so we took them to my basement.

We kept them there for the next 6-8 weeks, found homes for all of the kittens except Cali. My then 17 year old son wanted to keep her to be his cat, yet somehow all these years later I still have her ☺️ We had the mom spayed and kept her too.

When I took Cali to the vet, I warned the vet tech that Cali was feisty and might bite. The vet tech told me that was not uncommon for Calicos, as they are the red head of the cat world, and tend to have spicy personalities 😂
