Join us to learn more about our โTurkey Tastersโ foster pets. Today and tomorrow, Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th from 10am-5pm, look for our dogs with the โTurkey Tasterโ kennel tag and take home a shelter pet for the holiday! HSSM will provide all medical care, a crate (if needed), and a starter bag food. You just provide a warm home for the holiday season.
Today is the kick-off of our $25 adoption special going on through this Saturday! Weโre stuffed! Please consider giving a pet in need a home for the holidays.
Cooper the Croc is excited to show off his new trick of sitting like such a good boy!
Did you know that just by learning this one simple command makes shelter dogs 50% more likely to be adopted compared to an untrained dog? Just by showing off his new skills, we're sure Cooper will land himself in a loving forever home today. He also does great with other dogs, cats, and kids-making him the perfect addition to any family!
We're encouraging everyone to celebrate this "Howl-o-ween" season with HSSM by stopping by the shelter to "Teach a dog a trick, OR bring a dog a treat!"
HSSM's adoption center is open Tuesday-Friday from 10am-5pm or Saturday from 10am-4pm. We're currently housing over 300 animals in-house so we can use all the treats and toys you are willing to donate to fill their pumpkins and make their day. If interested in spending more time with the animals to help train them and prepare them for their forever home, please contact [email protected].

โค๏ธ Our senior pets have so much love left to give! ๐พ Sadly, theyโre often overlooked in favor of younger, more energetic companions. But adopting an older pet comes with many perks: a calmer personality, a higher likelihood of being house-trained, and greater socialization with people and other animals. These sweet souls were once someoneโs cherished companions, and now theyโre waiting for a loving home to call their own again. Visit HSSM today and give a senior pet the second chance they deserve!#animalshelter #seniorpets #adoptdontshop #overcapacity #rescuestartsatintake #humanesociety #dogs #dogsoffacebook #cute #seniordog #gulfport
Siblings by chance, bonded by choice!
Luke and Leia are HSSM's tiger striped bonded canine duo with a heartwarming connection. Since they were born in March 2022, they have been inseparable. Unfortunately, their elderly owner was moving and could not take them with him. Although bonded pairs are the hardest to get adopted, especially if they are large dogs, HSSM has made it our mission to find them a loving home...together.
While Luke is pretty outgoing, Leia is more on the shy side and relies on her brother to help guide her through unknown situations. As long as these siblings stick together, they can thrive in any environment. If separated for even the smallest amount of time during a walk, both will stop walking and immediately go on the search to find the other.
Luke and Leia are looking for a family that will love them both equally and unconditionally. Both of these pups are dog friendly, heartworm negative, spayed/neutered, and up to date on all vaccinations.
Please stop by the shelter tomorrow between 10am-5pm to meet these siblings for yourself. There are so many reasons to adopt a bonded pair!
1. Allows for an easier adjustment to a new home.
2. Reduces separation anxiety and destructive behaviors.
3. They provide consistent companionship to each other.
4. They learn from one another.
5. They share resources.
6. You save TWO lives rather than just one!!
Why adopt one when you can adopt TWO this #NationalDogWeek!!!
Daffodil is our resident "Tripawd". She was born with a genetic deformity that caused her front leg to drag behind her as she walked. To improve her quality of life, our Veterinary team made the decision to amputate the leg. Daffodil has since recovered beautifully. She is a six month old pup with a consistent drive to keep moving forward. Because of her disability, Daffodil has been often overlooked. Many people see her missing leg and continue to walk past her, leaving her to gaze after them in longing. She has been here for 121 days and continues to wait for her forever home.
