🚨 NO MORE FREE PUPPIES! 🚨
We’re launching our No More Free Puppies campaign for Harrison County residents early this year because we are overwhelmed with unwanted litters being surrendered.
The Crisis We’re Facing:
📍 275 dogs currently in our shelter
🏠 50 dogs in foster care
📅 59 scheduled dog surrender appointments
📞 10+ more waiting to be contacted
This month alone, we have housed five litters. Despite 400+ Facebook shares, only one person stepped up to foster. Just last week, three owners came in back-to-back to surrender their litters. Had we taken them all in at once, we would have had 30 dogs in under an hour. We cannot sustain this. We do not want to euthanize for space.
How to Participate in Our No More Free Puppies Program:
✅ Email [email protected] to set up an appointment.
✅ We will vaccinate and medicate the litter.
✅ You will foster the puppies until they are ready for adoption, bringing them in for routine check-ups and medical care.
✅ Once ready, we will take them in and find them homes.
✅ We will spay the mom for free at our clinic when her body is ready for surgery.
🚨 Participation in this program for Harrison County residents requires both fostering the puppies and spaying the mother. 🚨
By working together, we can stop the cycle of unwanted litters and reduce the number of homeless pets in our community. Please help us save lives!
And if you are as passionate about this as we are, please visit hssm.org/beanadvocate and sign up for email alerts.

Do you know who left these cats at our door?
These cats appear well-cared for, but abandoning them like this was not the right choice. By leaving them without any information, you’ve made it harder for us to help them find the loving, safe homes they deserve.
We wish you had reached out to us first. Our Pet Resources Department could have assisted with vet care, pet food, or even pet deposits to help keep your pets in your home. If surrendering them was truly your only option, we could have worked with you on the surrender fee—a small amount that helps cover the $300+ it costs (per cat) for vaccinations, spay/neuter, a microchip, and their care and sheltering until adoption.
Abandoning your pets is not acceptable. There are resources and support available if you ask. Please know we’re here to help—before it comes to this. If you or someone you know needs assistance, contact us at [email protected] today.
Join us to learn more about our “Turkey Tasters” foster pets. Today and tomorrow, Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th from 10am-5pm, look for our dogs with the “Turkey Taster” kennel tag and take home a shelter pet for the holiday! HSSM will provide all medical care, a crate (if needed), and a starter bag food. You just provide a warm home for the holiday season.
Cooper the Croc is excited to show off his new trick of sitting like such a good boy!
Did you know that just by learning this one simple command makes shelter dogs 50% more likely to be adopted compared to an untrained dog? Just by showing off his new skills, we're sure Cooper will land himself in a loving forever home today. He also does great with other dogs, cats, and kids-making him the perfect addition to any family!
We're encouraging everyone to celebrate this "Howl-o-ween" season with HSSM by stopping by the shelter to "Teach a dog a trick, OR bring a dog a treat!"
HSSM's adoption center is open Tuesday-Friday from 10am-5pm or Saturday from 10am-4pm. We're currently housing over 300 animals in-house so we can use all the treats and toys you are willing to donate to fill their pumpkins and make their day. If interested in spending more time with the animals to help train them and prepare them for their forever home, please contact [email protected].

❤️ Our senior pets have so much love left to give! 🐾 Sadly, they’re often overlooked in favor of younger, more energetic companions. But adopting an older pet comes with many perks: a calmer personality, a higher likelihood of being house-trained, and greater socialization with people and other animals. These sweet souls were once someone’s cherished companions, and now they’re waiting for a loving home to call their own again. Visit HSSM today and give a senior pet the second chance they deserve!#animalshelter #seniorpets #adoptdontshop #overcapacity #rescuestartsatintake #humanesociety #dogs #dogsoffacebook #cute #seniordog #gulfport
