The ‘Lone Brabanter’ has arrived ❤️

This is the Lone Brabanter.
This hatch was not the greatest. We had 6 hatchlings. We had no hope as USPS held up the embryos and in cold weather. They arrived on day 14 which makes the odds worse.
Of the six 4 were not fertilized. That left just 2. Of the two, one was a quitter when checked on day 14. That left this one. We didn’t hold out much hope as the air sack was very distorted. We thought for sure it was over.
NOT THE Case!
As you can see this one is strong, and a miracle chick. We are so happy to see its thriving, and by the looks of things could hatch any moment. It’s day 19, this lil chick is in a hurry ❤️

Added a windmill to one of the chicken areas. Fun!

The 6 1/2 week old Spitzhaubens.
It’s been a rough two days with so much rain. They have been in their run keeping safe, warm, and away from the rain. This afternoon the rain and storms finally moved on. They were able to get out and roam around this afternoon.
Growing up so fast!

It was the Wyandotte Chick's turn.
Today since the Spitzhauben graduated to the outside world, the Wyandottes left the nursery to the toddler room. It'll be their brooder until a kind human decides to adopt them.
They have plenty of activities to do in the toddler room. Happy sweet chicks.🥰

The Spitzhaubens have been exploring their new space. They seem so excited to be outdoors. The transition has been great!

04/05/2024

Today was a big day for the Spitzhaubens. It was transition day. Time for the move out into the outside world.
I Got up early and started in.
Started with going to get the transition coop off the backside of the property. I moved to my shop and did required maintenance on the coop. Cleaning, caulking, adjusting boards, putting in screws and more. Just making sure it's safe, secure, and weather proof for the Spitzhauben. After that, my wife and I started with retrieving the temporary fencing. This will add a division in the free range run space from the adult birds and the teens. After running the fencing, I then did some work on the soil. Did some leveling, raking, filled in holes and etc. Next, I brought the coop in, got everything situated, and brought the Spitz out. It took about 2 hours to complete the new space for the Spitzhaubens. They'll be separated from the adult birds until mid- June. By then they'll be big enough and by then the other birds will have adjusted to the new additions, thus making for a peaceful integration when it's time.
