I can not recommend Captain Canine enough!!! Have been grooming my dogs for years out of a shop and literally just started mobile grooming. They have a grooming bus and can groom right outside of your house for the convenience. My dogs always look perfect, are so soft after, and absolutely love them! 🩷🐾

Mabank, Kemp, Athens, Kaufman & Trinidad are closed Tuesday with a 2 hour delay on Wednesday.

Malakoff, Eustace, Scurry, Brownsboro and Cross Roads ISD are closed on Tuesday and will announce later if there is a Wednesday delay.

We pray everyone is staying warm and safe. We will continue to update as we hear of other local closings.

On Saturday 10/29/2023 the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a residence on State Highway 19 South just outside of Athens stating they located a young child in a stroller that had been left out by the roadway in their driveway. Deputies and Emergency Medical Services went to the residence and spoke with the residents. The eight month old female was checked out by Emergency Medical Staff who stayed with the child while Deputies conducted the investigation until more Investigators could get on scene.

The Sheriff’s Office posted the child on social media asking for help identifying who she was or who her family was. The Sheriff’s Office received a call from Aliza Perez who advised dispatch she needed to turn herself in for leaving the child.

Henderson County Crimes Against Children Investigator Dustin Smith and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigator Jonathon Barrios responded to assist in the investigation. Investigator Smith notified Child Protective Services who also responded.

Investigators conducted interviews and learned that Perez was the mother of the child and she had left the child on the side of the roadway in a stroller. CPS also conducted interviews and placed the child.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office, CPS, the Texas Rangers, and UT Emergency Medical Services.

On 10/29/2023 Investigator Smith presented a probable cause affidavit to Henderson County 392nd Judicial District Judge Scott McKee. Judge McKee issued an arrest warrant for Perez for endangering or abandoning a child.

Investigator Smith arrested Perez and she is now in the Henderson County Jail.
