We had so much fun let's do it again! There was 31 entries in the Trail Challenge and 28 teams in the Cattle Drive. We have made some changes to the Top Hand Event. First, we will be paying out the jackpot money through a self-handicapping divisional method. Second, we will be running the event in sessions to better accommodate riders time commitment. Third, the Cattle Drive will be up to four picks or draws. The information about these changes is in the flyer. If you have any questions, call me.

ISO businesses and persons interested sustaining and promoting our Western Heritage through sponsorship of competitive cowhorse events including: cutting, ranch sorting, cowhand trail race and cattle driving competitions. These western-style equestrian sports have evolved from common ranch activities of separating, moving, managing, and working cattle. The events will be held at the Cross Slash Facility in Gunnison, Colorado.
These events bring together diverse groups of participants in a friendly, competitive, and supportive environment. Experienced riders from the disciplines of cutting, reined cowhorse and ranch sorting use the Cross Slash cowhorse events as opportunities to prepare for their sanctioned regional and national events. High school students use the event as warmups for their High School Rodeo cutting events. Additionally, folks who have little to no experience in these contests will enter the classes, because it is a safe and supportive environment for them to experience cowhorse competitions without the pressure and expense which can occur in regional and national sanctioned events.
Sponsors are sincerely and truly appreciated by both the Management of the Cross Slash cowhorse events and the competitors. $1700 added money is being sought for the cutting and ranch sorting event which will be held on August 13, 2022. An additional $900 is being requested for the cowhand trail race and cattle drive competition to be held in September, time, and date to be announced. Update!!!! Thanks to R.I. Vader and Sons Inc. We have been able to add a Rookie class to the Ranch Sorting on July 11th. A Rookie is any rider who has competed less than10 time or won less than $500 in ranch sorting. Rookies can pick up to two partners with no draw. Rookies can partner with an experienced sorter. Only the Rookies will pay entry fees and be paid out in the jackpots.

There will be some changes for the July Cross Slash Cut-N-Sort. The cutting will be held on the regular scheduled date of July 9th at 9:00 AM. The sorting has been rescheduled for July 11th at 5:00 PM. In part the decision to move the sorting to July 11th was based upon Cattlemen’s Days not holding their 3-man sort this year. The decision was made to step up and offer the 1 and 2 man sort at the Cross Slash for all the folks who traditionally sort during Cattlemen’s Days.
In addition, let’s give a huge shout out and thank you to Western Lumber Inc, Sun Sports Unlimited Inc, Triple Cross Towing, Standard Tires and Service Center and Gunnison Auto Performance for donating $1200 to the cutting and sorting jackpots.
