Do you have a dog that has an undercoat? There is no need to shave them. It Does not help them stay cool. In fact, it hinders their ability to regulate proper temperature. Plus the top coat grows back spotty and uneven.

Matted fur can't be brushed out, and must be shaved off.

To prevent matting, you should brush your dog often at home.
