Good Afternoon, Friends,

Another critter needing a new home or a foster. Kokomo is about 11 months old so still a pup. She's about 40 lbs, vaccinated and spayed. She LOVES other doggies and playing in the snow. Has not reacted well to little children or little dogs, cats, chickens, etc. She can be a bit "mouthy" and possessive so will need some work on that, but has a solid foundation of basic training. Must go to a home with some active dog experience and the time to give her the attention and exercise (both physical and mental) she needs.

This little angel is a lovely gift from a lovely person who also made a VERY GENEROUS financial donation to GUR. Anne Michel of Gunnison Gallery has been a consistent supporter of animal welfare and rescue groups for many years, along with many other worthy causes. We are very lucky to have her support and friendship. THANK YOU, ANNE!

Please read entire post before texting GUR at 970.209.7030.
This shy young kitty needs a new home. She's spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations, just really in need of a home where she will receive some calm, patient socialization. Currently in a home with children but no idea whether she's ever met a dog. Will you provide her with the loving, forever home she deserves???

PUMBA came to Gunnison!

Beyond happy to share this pic with everyone who reached out Pumba, about the 14 year-old dog about to lose his home. We shared his post from Lucky Day Animal Rescue and he's been adopted by a great local couple who saw the shared post. How awesome is that?!?! There are many reasons to disparage social media, but animal rescue is not one of them.

A DOG is NOT just for Christmas. A DOG is for LIFE!
'T’was the night before Christmas and all thru the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse.
Our stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds with no thought of their dog that was filling their head.
With mom in her kerchief and I in my cap knew our dog was cold, yet didn’t care about that.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash, figuring our dog was free of his chain and into the trash.
The moon on the crest of the new fallen snow gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear but Santa Claus with his eyes full of tears.
He unchained our dog once... ...so lively and quick… last year’s Christmas present now painfully sick.
More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name and our dog ran to him despite all of his pain.
“On Dasher, on Dancer, now Prancer and V***n, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen!”
To the top of the porch to the top of the wall “Let’s find this dog a home where he will be loved by all.”
I knew in an instant there’d be no gifts this year, for Santa had made one thing exceedingly clear.
The gift of a dog is not just for the season. We had gotten the dog for all the wrong reasons.
In our haste to think of the kids a cool gift there was one very important thing that we missed.
A dog should be family, and cared for the same. You don’t give a gift, and then put it on a chain.
And I heard him explain as he rode out of sight, “You weren’t given a gift, you were given a life.
A DOG IS NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS A DOG IS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!'

“COLD HEARTED”

This winter make sure you keep an eye on your furry friend and don’t leave them unattended for too long in the cold weather! Many dogs freeze to death every winter due to neglect from their owners.

The idea that animals can “handle it” is an excuse for abuse. If you notice a dog being left outside in the cold, contact the police or animal control and tell them the dog has no access to water or shelter (if applicable) and needs to be taken indoors as required by law. That simple action could save a dogs life!

Naturally the cold affects different breeds of dogs differently. However, any dog is vulnerable to catching hypothermia or frostbite in weather below 20 degrees F.
So stay warm with our furry companions and keep a protective eye open for other animals!

PUPDATE!!
Remember the scared, sad doggy that desperately needed a new home?? Well, as you can see his trial adoption in Montrose is looking GOOD!! He's so relaxed he looks like a different dog!
Cindi Schwartz gets credit for this save and the Montrose Bully Breed Club for their help, too! But, as always, the ultimate hero is the potential adopter. PAWS CROSSED!

COURTESY POST
She's a pretty pitty in desperate need of a loving, forever home. Quoia (short for Sequoia) recently gave birth to 12 (TWELVE!!) puppies and now it's close to her time to get spayed and find someone to take care of HER! This dog has apparently been bred many times and come from an unstable, sketchy situation. Let's show her what we got, Gunnison Valley! Who's up for opening your heart and home to Quioa?? Call Gunnison Valley Animal Welfare League (GVAWL) at 970.641.1173 to meet her!

ALREADY ADOPTED!! SWEEEEEEET!

Oh, no!! A homeless husky!
This 5 year-old sweetie pie needs a HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS with humans who will love and care for him FOREVER!!! This dude is the longest resident at the SLV Animal Center in Alamosa and he's pretty depressed about it. After all, he's housetrained, plays a mean game of fetch, good on leash, would LOVE to live with other friendly big dogs and is even ok with cats!! What more could you ask for?! Give yourself the best holiday gift ever and adopt this handsome husky. He's in the San Luis Valley Animal Center at 719.212.6500.

PUPDATE!!! Very good news so far!
Thanks SO VERY MUCH for all your interest in this poor dog! Today he met some lovely and loving people, one of whom will be taking him home on a foster-to-adopt in a few days. The good people with the Bully Breed Club in Montrose and a certain amazing animal lover who's never met a critter she didn't want to save, worked to get this dog into a safe situation and show him what it is to be loved. We'll keep you all informed of his progress.
