Friendly PSA with the chance of severe wind & fire today, please make sure your contact info is on your pets ! If they don't have tags or lose them like mine, write your info on their collar in sharpie. Goes for horse halters too ! Best $16 I've spent on Amazon was collars with name plate built in !

Also have your pets kennels ready to go. All 11 of my pet taxis have been folded and piled on front porch since Thursday night.

Hopefully today is much easier than Friday but it's good to be prepared ! My baby for attention!

Friendly PSA. If you are in Oklahoma, your pets are freaked out, especially rescues that have trauma from their previous lives. My dogs are spinning and growling at the wind. One is hiding under the bed, kitties can't get close enough. Please give them their anxiety meds and have an evacuation plan for them. Mine is simple, release the farm animals and load the domestics up.

Miss Kitty Katt is having a rough day. She needed to come to the vet and hates pet carriers, car rides and the vet. She screamed all the way here and keeps hiding behind the computer monitor!

I love long sitting gigs. Sometimes i pet sit for up to 6 weeks. I'll do more, just never been asked. The hard part is saying " see you next time ". The pets become part of my daily routine and family. These guys family returns tomorrow & I'm already sad.

These tips also apply to pets or ferals that you can't bring inside.

My knees are screaming, cold is coming. Bare Necessity Farm is very small. We don't have tank heaters or heated waters. Some simple ideas to make the freezing temps a little easier.

*Old crockpots on low are great for poultry
& ferals water.
*For ducks, they get a tub with hardware cloth on top. cut 2 beak size holes, they won't make a coop dirty
* Have 2 sets of waters. When one freezes, I switch so the first can thaw.
*stuff barns, coops, houses, cages with STRAW not hay or blankets. They absorb moisture and freeze.
* use feed sacks or tarps to block North, West & South sides of coops. Don't forget to leave ventilation. I actually run a 2x2 along the large coops. 2 screws, over feed sacks or tarps. I put one top and bottom to hold in place despite the wind.
* only fill waters/tanks 3/4 of the way. It leaves room up top to pour hot water and provide fresh water a few times a day. I fill & carry 5 gallon jugs for water cooler.
* Recharging hand warmers for you. GAME CHANGER!
