November Land and Pond Management Calendar

Plant Native Prairie Seeds: Restored prairie or wildflower gardens benefit many animals including pollinators like monarchs.

Collect Deer Data: For harvested deer, record weight and determine age using lower jaw. Note deer sightings also. Data helps determine if management goals are being met.

Collect Quail Harvest Data: Keep harvested quail wings for aging. Contact a local wildlife biologist to learn more.

Manipulate Fallow Fields Dove: If standing grain remains, it can now be mowed to attract dove though the end of the year.

Winterize Equipment: Drain water from tanks, hoses, pumps and nozzles on fire and herbicide equipment.

Prepare Firebreaks: Maintain firebreaks now so they are ready when the timing is right for a burn.

Bee-autiful things happening šŸšŸ‘‡šŸ¼

One of the biggest goals for the Wildflower Cottage besides growing beautiful flowers is to bring honeybees to the farm. Not only would they be beneficial for pollinating crops like our berries and fruit, but bees have been shown to have health benefits to people that spend time near and around them. I would love to have the opportunity to share bees with the people who visit the farm by offering learning experiences in the future!

I have a friend that has graciously agreed to let me use her beekeeping supplies like hives and suit, but need some help getting the bees to the farm.

I created a listing on my website for people to make any kind of donation towards bringing bees to the wildflower cottage. This is my own little personal crowdsourcing.

Each colony (known as a nuc) is ~$200. Ideally I would get 2 to start out with. listing can be purchased independently or added to the purchase of a bouquet or subscription.

By making a bee donation you get the following in return:

- Recognition as a friend of the bees on our website &/or newsletter.

- $5* off your next bouquet with a $5 or more donation

- First offering of honey harvest when we are able to start harvesting in 2025

-First oppertunity for hive tours.

*For donations of $25 or more you will receive a free deluxe market bouquet.

To change the donation amount simply change the quantity to the desired amount and add to cart. We can also accept donations via
Venmo ) or
PayPal [email protected]

100% off these sales will go straight to bring the bees to the farm!!

Thanks you for supporting our family and helping us be able to share these simple joys with more people.

Did some work at the farm today trying to tackle the things we can. Remembering how to eat an elephant so I donā€™t get too overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done now that we are officially closed!

I cut and dried a ton of celosia last year and I was determined to grow more cut flowers for drying this summer. I didnā€™t get as much as I had hoped for, but I didnā€™t do too bad either! I am just smitten with these lil cuties! I am totally going to be making more and Iā€™m even thinking about hosting a diy craft and cocktail night to make these!

What other workshops would you like to see?!

Took a little time to harvest and document some of the dahlias I have growing in my tiny 125sq ft garden at my house. Once again proving you donā€™t need a lot of space to grow beautiful things. And this is even just a sampling since several didnā€™t have blooms that were in the right stage for their close ups. If I can do one thing I hope itā€™s share and show people that even they tiniest patch of soil can foster beauty. There is something so beautiful and promising about planting a seed. Itā€™s proving you have hope that youā€™ll see it sprout and grow and bloom. I donā€™t see flowers as a luxury. I see them as life giving. Without them we wouldnā€™t exist.

Kicking myself for not getting video before and making a reel. Oh well. The porch is well on its way for spooky season.

Planters:
End of season cannas
Purple fountain grass
Ornamental cabbage
Pansies
Dusty miller
Alyssum
Silver falls

I always try to do a mix of plants that will last me ALL year from first spring planter until first frost. Alyssum, silver falls and dusty miller always fit the bill!

Needing a little help with your gardens? One of the things I have recently started offering is consults. I have been gardening since I was a kid and worked for 6+ years at a local garden center all through college. This is my love and having lived here in central Oklahoma for almost 20 years now have gained a lot of insight into plants that do well in our area. I would love to help! Consults are $125 and I after that I can be as hands off or on in the process as youā€™d like me to be!

With everyoneā€™s fall schedules picking up I am also offering porch decorating for $50 + supplies. You let me know what you want and the budget, Iā€™ll grab everything and set it up for you! Take something off your plate!

The celosia is coming in so beautiful right now. I am getting buckets full and canā€™t wait to get all these beauties hung and drying for use over the winter. One of my biggest goals this year was to have more dried flowers at the end of the season. So far, Iā€™m doing pretty good. Growing varieties to dry is a wonderful way to extend that season after the weather shifts.

I was honored to have my daughterā€™s party featured in this month! has made our cakes since our wedding in 2011 and when she asked if I would be interested in collaborating with her for this I was beyond excited. I put a lot of time and thought into my girlsā€™ parties. People and celebrations are some of their favorite things so making their party a special event is such a priority. Having one of their special days featured in a magazine? Thatā€™s just icing on the cake!
