Woke up to a beautiful, cool morning so we headed out to do a little training! Nice back by Valia on a Bogie point 20 seconds after being dropped. š¤£ Not much after that but the cover looks good.
Scouted a bit for new spots near home but kept running into bear bait spots. Trampled area at the end of a deep woods trail at this time of year = bear bait spot.

Guardian dogs.
The dog pack here at camp includes three small dogs so we are always vigilant about the eagles that nest only about 100m away.
One swooped down last week and my big dogs launched a defense. It was impressive. As soon as we saw it, we ran outside but Bogie and Valia had already chased it away.
The other day I was lounging in the sun with Miss Vivi (Valia) when she started growling. Serious donāt-mess-with-me growling. I looked over and saw one of the juvenile bald eagles sitting in the snag overlooking the bay.
She crept onto the dock and stayed there, watching it.
Better not try it, eagle. The black and tan dogs arenāt afraid of you.
Valiaās āfishingā adventure.
An osprey was trying to steal a fish from another osprey and the fish dropped in the bay.
Valia saw it and swam out to retrieve the fish. Because she retrieves everything.
She brought a nice bluegill to shore. No sense in wasting it, so Pops filleted it for her.
A few hours go by.
Valia notices this trout on the wall so she climbs up on the window ledge to smell it.
This dog is so darn smart, adventurous, confident and hilarious. And very loving. Happy 2nd birthday to my sweet Vivi!

Valia got so excited she fell off the boat but got big cheers from everyone when we lifted her back in. š¤¦āāļø
I love the differences in their styles! They are each just as intense and beautiful but Bogie is a flashy American field bred and Valia is very traditional.
Which style do you like better??
Iām up at Voyageurs Natl Park doing field work. The volunteer in the RV next to me told me there are grouse along the road.

Well, this is what I posted about a while back when the USDA was seeking comments on this. Now itās a law.
There will be no more crossing into the US of any puppy under 6 months old from any country. Period. There are no exceptions for any country or any person. Even for Canada.
That means no more puppy imports until they are 6 months old. As someone who has imported two puppies from Europeā¦this is a really huge problem for ethical breeders trying to preserve breeds.
And now thereās more paperwork for any dog 6+ months old to cross the border into the US.
Starting on August 1, all dogs entering the U.S. (including those that left the U.S. and are returning, and regardless of the country they are coming from) must be:
ā¢ healthy upon arrival
ā¢ at least 6 months of age
ā¢ microchipped
ā¢ accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt and required vaccination and veterinary documents.
Additional requirements may apply depending on where the dog has been in the last 6 months and whether or not the dog was vaccinated in the United States.

I threw Valia in the crate after work and we zoomed toward a new cover I wanted to check out.
Then I smelled a smell. A bad smell. A REALLY bad smell. Oh. My. Gosh. I utilized my ability, born of thousands of stinky animal dissections, to block air from entering my sinuses.
I could have died.

So she gave up some of her run time for a bath. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Do you remember Sugar from the July 2022 litter? She and her brown/white brother were placed with @stoneybrook_gordon_setters, ran on wild birds all winter and then went on to live with two fantastic hunting families! Sugar is in Louisiana.
