Polo Wrapping is a great way to protect your horses legs from impact injuries, but also protects their tendons and ligaments in their lower legs during workouts (lunging, riding, etc.). However, polo wrapping is only beneficial when done correctly!!!
I prefer polo wraps over boots as they are able to actually conform better to the horses legs than most boot brands can.
Correct polo wrapping is very beneficial to your horse!
Incorrect polo wrapping can cause injury to your horses legs, such as bowed tendons. When polo wrapping, it is easy to accidentally wrap them too tight, or even too loose. Wraps that are too tight can irritate tendons, and cause a lack of blood flow. Wraps that are too loose are not only providing lack of support, but they can also come off during a ride and cause bigger issues.
Until you become proficient and comfortable in wrapping, always have someone check your work. And don’t be afraid to ask for help! Don’t let polo wrapping scare you, just be mindful of these things while you are learning and practicing!
