Do you have webs or tents of caterpillars on your hydrangeas and other trees? These may be Tent Caterpillars. You can physically remove them by clipping the branch and then either bagging them up or burning the branches. Alternatively, you can spray the webbed area aggressively with either Bonide Eight or Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew (organic). Make sure to get the spray on the caterpillars on the inside of the web tent.

So many fireflies tonight? Did you see them?

Here are some ways you can help protect fireflies:
-Leave yard waste
Leave woody yard waste like twigs, branches, and leaves in your yard, or designate a space for natural yard waste.
-Plant native trees
Plant native tree species to provide trees for fireflies to lay their eggs in.
-Add water features
Add a small moving water feature like a fountain or waterfall to your yard in a shady spot. Fireflies are attracted to moving water.
-Reduce lights
Turn off outside lights at night, or install lights with motion sensors and timers.
-Let the grass grow
Avoid over-mowing your lawn, and consider landscaping with tall grasses where fireflies prefer to live.
-Use natural fertilizers
Use natural fertilizers to make your lawn a healthier place for fireflies
