Curious, how many of you know that the Clydesdale numbers have dwindled so low? One of my favorite breeds! (Tho I must confess many breeds are my favorites 😉)

Whether it’s a herd, a few or just one, we All need friends!
Meet Seabiscuit’s bestie, Pumpkin!

PUMPKIN WAS SEABISCUIT’S best friend, pal, and most loyal stablemate! He was Seabiscuit's closest pal since Seabiscuit was brought to California by owner Charles Howard. Pumpkin also led Charles Howard’s string of racehorses on the track to exercise.

“SEABISCUIT wasn’t supposed to be a champion. Even though he came from great stock….he turned out kind of wonky looking. He ran funny, with a gait that looked like an egg be**er. He was small. In his early career, he had some tough times and they turned him a little bit mean. He was almost worn out before he really had a chance to shine. By the time he ended up in the care of the trainer who would take him to glory, Seabiscuit was 200 lbs underweight and so high-strung he spent most of his time pacing and pacing and pacing in his stall. He was a mess.

THEN ALONG CAME PUMPKIN. As Laura Hillebrand describes him in her book Seabiscuit: An American Legend, “Pumpkin was amiable to every horse he met and became a surrogate parent to the flighty ones.” High strung Thoroughbred race horses do better with a calm and gentle “lead pony” around. These companions keep the race horse company and walk with them out to the track to calm the nerves. Pumpkin had been a Montana cow pony–there wasn’t much he hadn’t seen but none of it had turned him mean. So the trainer knocked out the wall between two stalls and moved Pumpkin in with the Biscuit. After a little sniffing and conversation, the scrappy little champion and his soothing yellow companion remained bonded for the rest of their lives. And Seabiscuit went on to take his place in the history books.”

Another one of our favorite legendary horses, Snowman! If you haven’t seen the documentary “Harry & Snowman” put it on your must see list!

A kind man gave his last $80 to save a plow horse but they wrote history together. Harry Deleyer and Snowman, an old Amish plow horse, were united when Harry rescued Snowman from a truck heading to a meat and glue factory. The cost of Snowman's freedom was just $80. In less than two years after their serendipitous meeting, they defied all expectations to become national show jumping champions. Their incredible journey resembled a modern-day Cinderella story, captivating the public and attracting significant media attention throughout the late 1950s and 1960s.

Few equine stories have resonated deeply with an entire nation. In the 1930s, Red Pollard and Seabiscuit achieved this, followed by Harry deLeyer and Snowman in the 1950s. In the 1970s, Ron Turcotte and Secretariat continued this tradition of captivating the nation with their extraordinary bond and achievements.

The film "HARRY & SNOWMAN" marked a significant milestone as it was the first time Harry's extraordinary and heartfelt life story was narrated by Harry himself.

🌟 Blue Wing wild horses take a stand! 🌟

In a moment of defiance, a band of mustangs stands their ground as a roaring helicopter looms overhead. Led by their courageous stallion, each member of the band unites against their pursuer with powerful determination.

Thank you Monica Martinez Ross for capturing this moment of incredible strength and bravery at the Blue Wing wild horse and b***o roundup in Nevada.
