This sweet German Shorthair Pointer puppy has been with us since the summer, and her training journey has been nothing short of amazing. She regularly joins us for puppy sitting/day training and works on private lessons with her family. As a future service dog, Elly is excelling in her program and making her family proud.

Ivy: A One-Year-Old Border Collie Looking for Her Perfect Home

Ivy is a striking one-year-old black-and-white Border Collie with a sharp mind and boundless potential. Originally a board-and-train client, Ivy’s journey has led her to a new chapter where she’s searching for a forever home that fits her personality and needs. She’s intelligent, high-drive, and thrives in environments where she can bond deeply with her people while having a purpose.

Ivy has excellent on-leash and off-leash obedience training, making her a versatile companion. She’s fantastic with other dogs and does well with cats, adjusting seamlessly to a variety of living environments. Recently, she lived in-town and thrived, but she has also done well in a kennel setting. Her ideal home, however, would provide her with more individualized attention and engagement.

While Ivy is affectionate and engaging with people she knows, she can be reserved and even reactive toward strangers in certain situations. This trait is what ultimately washed her from therapy dog work—it’s not a battle we wanted to fight in that specific realm. However, I firmly believe this is something that can be worked through with the right owner who is patient, consistent, and willing to invest time in her confidence-building. Ivy’s personality reflects her Border Collie roots: quirky, sharp, and eager to connect.

She’s crate-trained, mostly potty-trained, and rides beautifully in the car. Ivy has also been tested on sheep and showed outstanding instinct, though she hasn’t had formal herding training. Whether as a working dog, an active pet, or a project for someone ready to unlock her full potential, Ivy is well-suited for a dynamic home where she can continue to grow.

Health-wise, Ivy is intact (with one heat cycle) and will need to be spayed at the appropriate time. She also needs to be updated on vaccinations. She is not registered, as she was not part of my breeding program. Her rehoming fee is $500, which covers her training equipment and includes transition lessons with me to help her new family understand her training and set her up for success.

The ideal home for Ivy would be with someone who appreciates her intelligence, drive, and sensitivity. She’d thrive in an active household where she can be mentally and physically stimulated. While not suited for therapy work at this stage, she has endless potential as a loyal companion, a working dog, or even an active pet for a committed older teenager.
