Snuffle Mat Use
We are excited to add “snuffle mats” to our toy/products available at NorthPaws!
What are snuffle mats?
Snuffle mats are a simple fleece based mat used to encourage your cat or dog in foraging behavior by hiding pieces of food between layers of fleece. This is especially useful for pets that are quick eaters as it forces them to slow down and find the kibble or treats. They provide a mental and physical exercise which can be helpful with reducing stress or anxiety and to help provide a positive way to burn energy and mental stimulation. Our snuffle mats are machine washable – although we recommend air drying.
Check out one of our patients- River and Dr. Mumma’s dog Seven demonstrate their snuffle mats.
Thumper knows how to melt some hearts. Just look at him! He enjoyed a casual snack while checking out after his last wellness exam. 🥕🐇
Baby, the 30 year old Senegal Parrot recently boarded with us. Technician Tonya and Assistant Kendle had daily dance parties and concerts with him. They tried various songs to see what he would like and Justin Bieber’s “Baby” seemed to be a hit! 🎵🦜
Meet sweet Beemo, the rat 🐀🤎. Beemo was feeling a little under the weather when he came to see us last month. That didn’t stop him from being his loving, adorable self though! Beemo is about 1.5 years old and was comfortable hanging out on his moms shoulders while giving himself a “bath” and eating a snack at checkout. Thanks to his mom for sharing him with us and allowing us to get him feeling better quickly!
Meet Tiggy!
Tiggy is a 3 year old hedgehog. She came to see us earlier this summer for some concerning symptoms. Dr. Liskey performed diagnostics, consulting with Dr. Burkhart to determine the best treatment. Dr. Becker performed surgery and a routine spay procedure had resolved Tiggy’s medical issues!
Tiggy was a great patient for us and you’ll see at the end of the video where she was up and seemingly not phased after waking up from surgery.
Our doctors do a great job of collaborating together to give each patient the best care we can offer. We are so happy that Tiggy is happy and healthy again! 🦔❤️
Meet Ricky!
Ricky is a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and he had his first visit with us today. He was talking as soon as he walked in the door! His dad told us that he loves to dance to rock music, so we had an impromptu concert with his favorite song! Check out those headbanging skills! 🎵🎸🦜
Greg was not even 1 week old when he came along with his feline “brother” to a checkup. Greg is a “keet,” or a Guinea fowl baby! When we see critters this cute, we have to remind ourselves that the idea of to hiding them in our pockets is highly frowned upon 🫣😂
Lainey, owned by Assistant Jessica, definitely won’t cut it as a receptionist. We will keep her around for comedic breaks though. 😂🐐
Raisin, the adorable ferret, was seen for an ultrasound. We played with her first because, why not?! Even after getting the ferret zoomies, she happily complied to laying still while we fed her a snack. She was the perfect patient! #FearFree #ExoticVet #FerretMedicine
Last weekend, some of our staff volunteered a few hours of their time at East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue in Fairfield, PA. We performed wing and nail trims on their various parrots and macaws and helped teach other volunteers there how to do the same! Our crew also spent some time cleaning the bird room. Afterward, they enjoyed strolling around to see the various animals that have been rescued and given a forever home.
✨If you’re looking for a unique opportunity to help rescued animals, they are always welcoming more volunteers!
Check out the face behind those paws! Meet Viserion 🐉Viserion is a 1 year old Russian Maine Coon. He is as sweet and he is stunning! He weighs in at 23 pounds. For reference, our exam room tables are 22 inches wide by 44 inches long. Our staff and especially Dr. Burkhart, loved meeting this gentle giant. 😻 #BestJobEver
Team NorthPaws ROCKED IT at the 20th Annual Polar Bear Plunge today to benefit the animals at the Humane Society of Washington County! Thanks to our brave plungers, Kristin Williams, Stori Boggs, Matty Pogue, and Kyle Wagner! You and your supporters raised $650 for the animals! Thanks everyone!
Becky was rudely interrupted from her daytime slumber with a visit to see us for a vaccine!
Nigel is here to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day! There was no better man for the job- check out his heart shaped nose! 💘🌹
