Hey friends!

This week is going to be unbelievably hot and our wildlife friends could use a cold drink too ♡

Please consider putting some water out for not only the community cats but wildlife too.

Stay safe this week!

Here's a yearly reminder - baby squirrels running after you and even clinging to the leg of your pants are not rabid ! They’re doing this out of sheer desperation because they’ve lost their mother and have been lacking care for days. Young squirrels are an exception in the animal kingdom - when they have lost contact with their mom and suffer hunger and thirst, they gather all their courage and purposefully seek help from humans.

Tortoishell Cat
Have you heard about the legend of the tortoiseshell cats? There are some very special kittens known as tortoiseshell (you've probably seen them) they have fur in different color combinations of black, yellow and white, and they also have the peculiarity that almost all of them are female. If you have a tortoiseshell cat you should know this legend.

Legend says that many centuries ago the Sun begged the Moon to cover him for a while so that he could have the chance to leave the heavens and wander freely around Earth. The Sun no longer wanted to be the center of the universe and wanted to be able to go unnoticed among all the living creatures.

The Sun insisted so much that on a bright June morning the Moon slowly started moving towards him until she covered its light. The movement was slow, so that the creatures below wouldn't be surprised by the sudden darkness.

As soon as the Sun could step down from its place, it headed towards Earth. To avoid calling attention to itself, the Sun took the body of the fastest and most discreet creature around; a black cat.

The Moon quickly grew tired of covering for the Sun and, without warning, started to recede. The Sun noticed this and in its haste to return to its place left behind thousands of rays in its mortal host.

To this day, the cats we call tortoiseshell are the descendants of that black cat that long ago hosted the sun during its visit to Earth. Today we can still see hints of the sun in the patches of red, yellow and orange that cover their coats. The split face on some of these cats is further evidence of their dual nature; half cat, half heavenly star.

Some folks say that their solar origin grants these special cats magical properties, they are said to bring good luck and attract positive energy. Also, these cats are very loved and appreciated in Oriental countries; it's common knowledge that whoever possesses one should cherish and treasure her..🐈🐾❤️🤎

This is a local shelter ! Please help!

So we're in the same spot that we were three weeks ago, the last time that I asked for donations... I put the plea up this morning and we have received $135, which is GREATLY appreciated but not nearly enough to pay what needs paid and buy what needs bought... I used the $135 to buy two bags of Fresh Pet for Bo & Chance and two cases of canned food for Pops... Dudley & Calvin are both on ground turkey & egg (for medical reasons) & Calvin is still getting baby food twice a day (it entices him to eat, which helps his IVD)... I was able to buy the baby food but had to use my own money for the ground turkey & eggs :( Which then reaches into our personal bill money... We currently owe our vets' office $874.23 for Pops' visit on Monday and Dudley's surgery yesterday... our storage units will lock at midnight tonight because I don't have the money to pay them, meaning I will not be able to get to our online auction items (auction is to start on the 25th and I need to get pictures)... I really don't know what to do...

I found ways to pay for our one Scratchpay payment (from Callie's ER visit a couple of months ago) that was $147.22... I paid for our liability insurance, which was $216... Calvin's ER visit ($453.68)... vet visits totaling $1010.28... plus all of the bagged Fresh Pet, canned food, treats, medications, etc for the past few weeks... and I have nowhere to pull money from at this time to get through even this weekend...

I took on a part-time job and am trying my hardest to make my Pampered Chef side gig successful... but it's not enough to keep our personal bills paid when I am constantly using it to keep the rescue afloat...

So I am going to ask that you please continue sharing my posts... and give if/what you can... Donations can be made via:

Donated So Far: $4325 (including the $135 from this morning's post)
