We have been so busy rescuing cats and kittens that we’ve had zero time to post them. Here’s a few examples. Unfortunately, there are a lot more examples! Just working hard to get these kitties into great shape so they can go to the mainland as soon as they’re ready.
4th of July noise starts soon- please protect your pets with proper collars/tags. This works in a bind. Now's the best time to do it.
Inside a crate indoors is a great place when the bombs start. So many dogs go missing because they were pet out just to p*e. Keep them own a leash and right back in. Many cats go missing as well, bring them in!
Got these 3 cuties from a jerk who was seen dumping them at Kanaha Beach (sped off before Shelly Dunbar realized what was happening, didn’t get license plate). They are named after some friends I adore. They will be ready for adoption in about four weeks. There are two more of them that had to be bottle fed so they are still with Shelly.
These guys are doing a really great work. If you can afford to donate, please do! Small amounts add up quickly, it’s never too small!
Are any of my friends looking for a 1+1 in Kihei for $2500? A friend has a nice large apartment available and there is one stipulation, you must have pets. ❤️
Who remembers Archer? We found him 6 months after the fire inside the closed burn area. We named him after Terry Archer who had been feeding him. He was incredibly fractious but we suspected that might just be trauma. He was on the verge of needing a blood transfusion, extremely anemic and had been trying to sustain himself for quite a long time. He was also covered in a sticky substance that we suspect could have been soil tech. They had just sprayed the area with it so they could clear the debris.
Well, look at him now! It took months, but he is a complete purr machine. He still looks pretty funky, but he’s put on a few pounds. He didn’t need a blood transfusion although he’s getting a dental in a couple weeks (thanks to your Fire Cat donations). What is especially fabulous about this photo is that this is not a kitty bed. This is a human bed! Archer has been adopted. Maui Bird Rescues’ own Hunter Ga, who also works with Kitty Charm Farm, has given him his forever home.
Nothing makes us happier than to pull a homeless animal from a traumatic situation, and later see them snuggled in bed with a collar and tag. We will keep chipping away at these fire cats and cats around the border.
Archer for the win!
Kitty Charm Farm would like to thank the Maui Police Department for their thoughtful and thorough month long investigation of Eddie’s case. We are so grateful that they took this crime so seriously. Today we were given a case report that included the charges they have just presented to the prosecuting attorney. Three felonies per person - cruelty to animals, criminal property damage, and theft of livestock. It is now in the hands of the prosecutors to review the evidence, and determine the charges. We have faith the prosecutors will agree the evidence is more than sufficient.
At the same time, Alicia posted this on her Facebook. She drafted this on her own and surprised me, but she did run it by for approval. What an incredibly sweet friend to stand up for Eddie. There have been so many kind people like her - some close friends & some strangers - and we are so appreciative of their/your support.
Appalled by the news of my friend's pig being stolen and slaughtered for $1,000. Senseless and disturbing. 💔
Can somebody adopt bud? He’s living in this tiny crate full-time. Kitty charm farm has offered to neuter him. he’s apparently quite friendly
Three years ago…. Not nearly long enough…. But definitely a precious three years. RIP Eddie. We love him so much.
Up up and away! And look who’s they are with - it’s Maui’s own superstar, Cat Cafe Maui’s owner Moriah Diamond Maui! These are the first kitties that Moriah has flown, even though she has been spearheading our flight outreach program to tourists. Her husband Sam also took kitties for us and he is 51 today! What a great way to help Maui.
Thats 3 more kitties headed to indoor only homes in San Diego. Nuka is an adult who was homeless at the Nuka Restaurant. Mauka & Maiki are kittens rescued from Wailuku. So much gratitude to the AMAZING Helen Woodward Animal Center for placing these 3 kitties in terrific homes, and for stepping up to do a dental on sweet Nuka who has some broken teeth. Saving us on a couple thousand dollar dental enables us to save so many more kitties! AND they were also willing to take the kittens unfixed, freeing up TNR space for our inundated Maui cat fixing community. We are so grateful for this terrific partnership with easy to work with people, who care so much.
Also, a big thank you to Kim Ackerman and family, who are picking the kitties up from the airport, fostering them overnight, and delivering them to Helen Woodward in the morning.
Animal Reminders !!
4th of July is headed our way, are you ready?
- MHS is doing an event this Saturday-they are providing free microchipping (it's now a law to have one) and also providing sedatives for $5. Flier in the images.
- All dogs should wear a collar with tag (also a law). Rescuers are working non stop driving all over island to scan chips, trying to get pets back to their families. A collar withy tag enables the general public to do this so we can help others who dont have them. Also much easier to catch a loose dog wearing a collar.
- PLEASE keep your dog on a leash when they go potty week of 4th of July. Many escape being let out for just a moment, due to sudden explosion.
- If you live in the 'bomb areas', please consider visiting a friend for the night in Haiku or another much quieter area.
- Kenneling your dog AND CATS during noise is very helpful. Put the kennel in a safe room and cover it with blankets. Many dogs will break windows and break down doors when the noise starts. Best off in a kennel in a small interior windowless room, if possible.
- Please bring your cats in as well. Cats flip out and run into roads. Many mellow pet cats went missing last year, some never found. If your cat can be handled, consider a breakaway collar and tag for them as well (long term). We return lost pets years after they go missing because finder never took them in for a microchip scan. A tag is the fastest way to get your beloved pet home.
If anyone else has helpful suggestions, please add to the comments.
Thanks.
Kitten season! Just dropped these 2 at the airport for their new lives in Seattle, and five minutes later , got 4 more! Intake is booming… we sure need more spay & neuter on Maui.
San Diego - I’ve got 5 small kittens to send Maui to San Diego and I’m hoping there are some people flying there in the next 2 weeks. Would need to be Alaska, Delta, or Hawaiian. We will meet you w kittens at the Maui Airport & we will be standing at the San Diego airport when you land. We add them to your reservation, and we pay the fee. You just need to keep them at your feet while you fly! If you’re flying to SD in the next few weeks, please comment here or message Sarah Haynes.
Everybody who has ever flown kitties for us has said they loved it. Many have signed up repeatedly. We make it really easy- look at these happy customers!
If you would like to fly kitties, please use the square on the pink flier!
This is a great group to adopt from and these are fire kitties who have been in foster for over half a year. They sure need a loving home!
This arrived in the mail today. Thank you so much Patricia Amstutz - you have a heart of gold.

FOUND CAT- c/b from 2 locations - If you have a female cat missing by Door of Faith Rd **AND/OR** bY Ala Olu PLace (just above downtown Haiku off of Kokomo Rd), and she is a dilute Torti with semi long hair, please reach out to me. I scanned this cat 2 blocks up Ala Olu Place the other day, she showed up about 3 days prior to that for food. Nice person fed her and called me. She was fixed in 2018 as a 'community cat' and put back where she came from which was far away on Door of Faith Rd. I dont know if she's been on Ala Olu for days or years, so I took her to our rescue center for safe keeping (Kitty Charm Farm). It's possible someone connected with her on DOF Rd, kept as their own, and then later moved near Haiku town - meaning maybe she was exactly where she is supposed to be today. Hoping someone out there knows this kitty so I can get her back to her safe spot. Here's a picture of her. Please contact me via TEXT . 415-336-4591. Please refer to her as "the Dilute Torti" since I have other rescue cats here. Thanks!
If you'd like to assist in transferring cats and have a flight reserved from Hawaii to the mainland on Alaska, Hawaiian, or Delta, please provide your information at mauicatrescue.org/flight. Thank you!!
Here is how it works: Once you’ve filled out the form we will keep your info safe. If a cat needs to fly on your flight, we'll text you ahead of time. Thank you for participating in our cat flight program. Maui Cat Rescue.
I know that everybody here is against trapping and dumping. Stealing somebody’s pet and dropping it somewhere is incredibly cruel to the human but it’s also incredibly cruel to the animal.
A couple years ago I dug into statistics on cats that are moved from their known environment, and the statistics were really bad for the cat. Their chances of survival if they are moved are very low - it was something like 40%, really bad statistics, and statistics do not lie.
I’m not speaking about carefully/ethically moving a cat, example using a Catio or a cage and letting them adjust to their environment for a month. I’m speaking about releasing a cat to a brand new environment, where they have no known location to run to & may or may not find food or water. I consider this cruel and just as bad as trapping and dumping.
I realize that there are many challenges that might drive somebody to do something like this – example, maybe the cat came from a location with a busy road, a mean person who might harm them, etc. I realize that intentions are good, but please think about what this animal may go through. A cat who is accustomed to his environment on a busy road is probably safer than a cat who is suddenly loose, terrified, possibly dehydrated and hungry, darting across a smaller road desperately looking for food or a place to hide. There are many things to consider but at the end of the day, if you can’t do it slowly and safely, I don’t think you should do it at all.
Other than the cats welfare, there are other reasons not to do this. How would you like it if somebody dumped a cat in your neighborhood or at your house? There’s a reason this is against the law and it’s not just for the cats benefit. Releasing a cat to a new environment puts YOU at risk also- you can lose all MHS services, support from your community, and you can even end up getting charged for animal abandonment.
I want to make it clear that if you ask Kitty Charm Farm for help with a cat or any other animal, we are going to expect you to follow the agreements that you made with us, follow animal welfare law, be a good communicator, make sound choices and consider us a partner in making any major decisions on the animals behalf. If you can’t agree to that, please do not reach out to us in the first place. If you can, we are usually going to be happy to help you.
Mahalo.
IHOP was rescued on Oahu by Maraya Dawn with Rescue Kitties of Hawai’i. Because he only has one full leg, we could not let him run loose on our farm, or he would end up in a fight and likely die. IHOP has had a large area in a social environment, but has been alone for about a year. Because another rooster had to get moved out of the Chick-Inn, IHOP just went from alone to the only man on campus at the ladies dorm. Better than Bachelor in Paradise! Every chicken, rooster, cat, pig, duck and any other animal at Kitty Charm Farm is a rescue.
** Also thank you to Kat charities snd Tessa Coulter who flew him to Maui in her private plane. If you’ve ever thought about flight lessons, she’s the one to call! Instead of flying around with nothing to do, to earn your hours, she puts you on interisland rescue missions!
Remember Kolohe, the airport parking lot kitty almost surely KICKED in the gut who had to be rushed to emergency overnight? She couldn't stand, we did poison tests, xrays, blood tests - and then shaved her and found massive bruising all over the belly. She had trauma to her liver from this hard impact. But not in a location a car could hit. Well...Here's a fabulous email we got from her awesome Seattle adopters today...thanks to The Whole Cat and Kaboodle
Hi, from Seattle! Kolohe is now Lily of the Valley! She has a very loving family and she has a brother kitty named Dave. She likes to sit in my lap while I cross stitch. She has stolen my Son’s armchair and it is now her bed haha. She loves watching the birds out the window and taking luxurious naps on my bed. Here are some pics! We love her so much. It sounds like she had a ruff start but she is a princess now.
** THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO HELP US SAVE HER. SHE'S LIVING HER BEST LIFE ALTHOUGH I KNOW THE AIRPORT EMPLOYEES MISS HER, AND SHE SURELY MISSES THEM. BUT SHE IS NOT JUST LOVED BUT ALSO SAFE HERE, AND THAT IS HER BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME. FROM AIRPORT KITTY TO INDOOR ONLY + WEARING A COLLAR, TAG AND AIRTAG TOO. LOVE THIS!!
Mana living her best life. This is the Kitty we trapped in Wailuku. Some lovely people were feeding her from afar and thought she walked weird. They finally got her close enough to see that there was a collar wrapped around her body. And actually, her body was beginning to grow/wrap around the collar as well, much like a tree trunk growing around a rope. More info on the story in the video. Original photos in the comments.
Anyone flying Maui to Seattle next week? If it's 2 people on Alaska or Delta- even better! Hawaiian OK too. Im looking to transport some kittens. Will bring to airport when you are checking in, and we will be standing there when you land. Super easy! We add the kittens to your reservation and we pay the fee. You just have them at your feet. No bulkhead or exit row though. LMK!
We have sad news which is not for the faint of heart.
Most of you know our gentle giant pig Eddie. We adopted him as a youngster from a local pig rescue. It was suspected that he was used for hunting dog training as he was found running through Kihei with scars and rope burns. We adopted him at our Sanctuary so he would never have to go through something like this again. He was taught to trust humans, and turned out to be such a sweet pig ~ providing comfort to so many Sanctuary visitors. He was my treasured pet.
On Saturday, May 11th at least 2 criminals trespassed onto our sanctuary property, cut our fence, entered our pig pen, and captured Eddie. It is obvious he is a cherished pet – he has a huge bright blue walk in barn and a swimming pool. One perpetrator has confessed, saying that they both hogtied him and dragged him - alive - out the hole in our fence, and down deep into the Gulch. They then used Eddie to stage a fake hunting video with their dogs. They killed him, gutted him and transported him to a contest in Makawao that they had entered the night before. They hung him from a tree to weigh him and at an estimated 250 pounds, they won $1,000.00 for biggest pig hunted. Then at least one of them posted self congratulatory videos and pictures of what they did to Eddie on Instagram. Videos I had to watch to identify him.
I can’t disclose more than that, but I do want you to know:
- The identities of the first two men are known.
- The police seem to be taking this case very seriously.
- There is a tremendous amount of evidence, beyond what the men posted of themselves.
- The first two people identified in this crime committed felonies. There may be other charges, and other people.
It is widely known that I don’t believe in killing animals. I understand the overpopulation issues, and I certainly prefer hunted meat to animals in factory farms. I ask that we do not to have a debate about hunting right now. It’s the other hunters who tipped me off to what happened to Eddie. They are appauled by this behavior, and have cooperated fully with the police. Hunters have a code of conduct. These young men broke all the rules.
Honestly, I can’t handle much more sadness and conflict. So I’d like to ask you a favor:
1. Please don’t vilify the hunters. This is about stealing a pet, putting that pet through tremendous trauma. It’s also about fraudulently entering a contest to win money. The hunting community will need to reassess contests in general, and incentives that attract illegal behavior. But they did not commit the crimes against Eddie. Please be respectful of that.
2. Please be aware that family members of those involved are going to see this post. I hate what was done. I am furious about it. However- as far as I know, their loved ones were not involved. I imagine they are in pain as well. Please keep that in mind when commenting.
In regards to my other three pigs, they were let out when Eddie was stolen. 2 are now back and 1 is still missing. The hunting community has joined me in asking all hunters not to hunt in my Gulch until he finds his way back home. I pray he has not been harmed. If anybody accidentally hunted a neutered male black pig about 150 pounds in the Kulie/Haumana gulch, please let me know. I will understand. Please spread the word to hunters.
Thank you to Eddie’s human BFFs of which there were so many - you know who you are. A huge Mahalo to Jenn, Suzanne and her husband, Melani, Shawn, Terry, Jillian, Teri & Christopher for rescuing/fostering a scared little pig running through the Kihei steeets, then getting him into his happy home.
My brain is on a loop of what I saw Eddie go through. I know the public has a lot of photos and videos of Eddie that can help all of us focus on happier times. I would love it if you would post them in the comments. I miss him terribly.
RIP Eddie. You brought us so much joy and you will be forever missed. I promised to protect you forever and I sure intended to. I’m shattered that your life ended the same terrifying way that it started.
If you would like to honor Eddie, please donate to one of the other amazing pig sanctuaries on Maui, in Eddie’s name.
They are:

Friends Of All Beings (aka Maui Pig Ohana)

Today we delivered Jasper to the airport, to the tourist that was flying him. I really liked her! Before she even got on her plane in Maui, she fell in love with him. She applied to adopt him via text from the Maui Airport. She’s very experienced with Cats and already has two others. We did the deal and I canceled his late night airport pick up person Ray, his foster Teresa, and his final destination, which was our favorite Cat Cafe. 6 hours ago he had no family and now he is home playing on his cat tree and playing with her other kitties from under the door. And her daughter has claimed him for her own. Jasper is a super social cat. He was originally rescued because he followed somebody 2 miles when they were walking down the road - not fixed not chipped. They advertised him as a lost pet, but did not get anywhere. Luckily, he is going to be safe as an indoor only cat for life. Jasper for the win!

Super gross alert! Today’s free clinic was full of all sorts of situations- but this one is most memorable. This Kitty came in with a giant abscess on his head. It was very hard and creating tons of pressure. This is only about 1/3 of the liquid that came out of that thing. Kitty is feeling much better now. Also got antibiotics, oncior, etc. Thank you to Sonia Gaudet who saw somebody posting this Kitty online needing help but couldn’t get him over to our Clinic. She went and picked him up in Kihei and drove him to Haiku and back, for free. Really sweet of her.

FABULOUS UPDATE! Big Mahalo to everybody who chipped in to buy a cat care vehicle for Laura. The car cost $6700. The tuneup was $420 which was greatly discounted thanks to The Rusty MauiCat Collective’s relationship with a kind mechanic (Susan’s husband!). There were a lot of people involved in this beautiful act of kindness - Peter Tyska who originally paid a mechanic to work on her old car & alerted us to the problem, Sean Nakanowho also worked on her car in the past, all of you who donated, plus Laurie Pottish and Shelley Dunbar, who spent quite a few days finding the best possible car and getting all the logistics done. This Honda has only 38,000 miles! All the other cars that were in our price range were well over 100,000, so this was a great find! Expenditures: Car 6700.00 Tune up 420.00 = $7120 total spent Money Raised: GFM 6020.00 Venmo direct pay 480.80 Check 722.00 = $7222.80 total raised The last $102 will go to filling her tank 2x. Thanks for everybody’s kindness and generosity.
We had the pleasure of delivering SNUGGLES to his new home in Lahaina on Saturday. SNUGGLES lived by the smokestack, their house burned down, and his family was sure he died. He was found 8 months after the fire by Leilani Zerkle about a block above the crosses on the highway. This kitty ran himself quite a long distance to safety, and ended up in a colony of border cats. He has no signs of having been burned. Because he has a microchip with the correct phone number attached, we were able to get him home. He was fostered at Kitty Charm Farm for about a month until his family could get into stable housing, which just happened this week. We were able to get him to the veterinarian, he had a serious bladder infection, but was otherwise looking good. We brought his KCF cage to their home so he could get adjusted to the other animals and the new environment. This is SNUGGLES seeing his family for the first time since the August 8 Lahaina fire. Thank you to the Hero scanner corporation, who gave us the scanner which got SNUGGLES home (we distributed 30 of them to people feeding cats in the fire areas). Also, thank you Kari Holt Branthwaite for brokering that deal for us.
Whitney (otherwise known as Kini Kini) will hopefully be with us a little longer than expected. We biopsied some of her lumps and bumps, and ran some blood, and while we do believe the leg is very likely cancer, the rest of her is looking great. Central Maui feels she could have a couple years left so we lopped that leg off. Very likely cancer but we’re sending it in to make sure. Wouldn’t that be crazy if it wasn’t?! Her leg was massive, and while I made an appointment 4 days prior, the very day of her appointment, she stopped putting it down. Day before she was running around…
Putting the Farm in Kitty Charm Farm! Our new doggie ❤️ Huge gratitude to Susanne Burry, Jen G and the rest of the MHS team who advocated for this pup to live out her final months on our farm, where she is so happy.
Fire Kitty SNUGGLES update! After 8 months on the run, he is about to go home! Super skittish semi-feral to complete love bug in a couple weeks. SNUGGLES survived the Lahaina fire by running from his home by the smoke stack, where everything burned, all the way up above the highway, about a block above the crosses. It’s great to see him off the streets and going home. Thank you to our supporters for helping us fund his and many other rescues. And also thank you to Hawaii Community Foundation for their assistance and helping us get peoples pets back into their homes. 8 months before he was found.! Please keep watching the cats posted that are living along the perimeter. This was the only way to get food for the first three weeks so we expect to find more of them. Keep hope alive if your pet is missing. SNUGGLES is proof that you’re happy day may come. His family was sure he died. MHS is giving the family a Catio to get him started at their new home - thank you!
Airport Kitty has been rescued! Meet Kolohe (rascal/mischievous). The moment I get home from the airport after flying home from Seattle last night, I got a call saying there is a cat in distress at the airport. Thank you Sonia Gaudett for going out and getting her for us. If you’re not familiar with what severe bruising looks like (a sign of impact, as well as rat poison), watch the video! The awesome Dr. Height at CMAC did not let this one slide by. The bruising was invisible with her fur. When she was sedated for x-rays, she shaved her stomach to make sure there wasn’t something else going on. Sure enough, she had severe bruising. This led her to suggest a blood test just in case this was not an impact injury (her x-rays showed no broken bones). Based on her blood, we were able to determine that this was not poisoning. It is a very unlikely place for an injury from a car, but could happen. Unfortunately, it’s a very likely place for a cat to get kicked. We can’t think of any other way to have a major impact on the belly, but surely there are ways. Her bill was $900 and we will be raising money to help pay it off, link below We will also export her if her microchip does not lead to an owner. She’s been living at the airport for 2 years but she is about 5 years old and was originally living in Wailuku. We are tracking down the human that fixed her to find out if she’s a Missing Kitty or needs a home. Sometimes these sad scenarios lead to a much better life, and that’s what we’re hoping to do here. I like to try to keep all the donations in one place so people feel comfortable and know exactly where the account stands. If you prefer Venmo or Paypal, you can do that and I will post below where we are at. Both of those are @kittycharmfarm https://gofund.me/b0e7c625
Saw this at the luggage area in Seattle. This is a giant crate, it held a labrador. Their zip ties were very substantial, about 1/4 an inch thick. Somehow this crate failed. I took a picture of the shipping label and reached out to the people who own the dog in case they needed these photographs for some sort of proof. Luckily, their dog was OK. The reason I’m posting this is to remind people that if you must ship an animal in cargo, please take every precaution you can for their safety. These people zip tied properly and they still had a major problem. You can see the door prongs are bent so the entire top of the door fell off (breaking the zip ties). I didn’t see any blood on the door, so I don’t think the dog caused this. Probably bent during handling. As I was walking away from making this video, I saw somebody shipping their dog in the same exact crate with tiny, frail zip ties I could break with my pinky. I directed them over to the other crate to see what could happen and encouraged them to insist that the airline bring them much more substantial zip ties. The people I called were so grateful that I had taken photographs and reached out to them. So glad the dog was OK! I like drilling holes every few inches around the doorway and zip tying the entire circumference of the door. I also zip tie the windows on each side. They are very hard to jam out, but not if they are crushed.
