Jitterbug arrived at the shelter last winter, cold and alone. She struggled to feel safe around other cats, becoming overwhelmed and fearful. Staff moved her into the volunteer office for some quiet space—and everything changed. She blossomed into the perfect officemate: part-time lap warmer, part-time spider patrol, full-time sweetheart.

After 178 days in our care, Jitterbug met her perfect person this September. Now she’s living the peaceful, spoiled life she always deserved.

Your gift gives Second Chances to animals like Katara. She arrived at Mountain Humane just before Christmas last year - homeless and alone and VERY pregnant. This beautiful mama soon gave birth to nine puppies! With her devoted care—along with support from our incredible medical and kennel teams—every one of her pups thrived.

After all her babies were adopted, Katara joined the Educational Project for Inmates (EPIC) program. This program not only helps dogs gain valuable training and confidence, but also offers inmates meaningful hands-on experience, purpose, and opportunities for personal growth. Katara brought her natural, nurturing spirit into the program, giving her inmate partner a chance to learn, grow, and heal right alongside her.

At Mountain Humane, we believe no pet should go hungry. Our Paws For Hunger Pet Food Bank is here to help so that no one has to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pet. But, we need YOUR help to keep the shelves stocked.

📣 Hello?? Did everyone scroll past these puppies the first time?! 📣

We are back - with NEW photos - and honestly, these babies are even cuter than before. How have none of them been scooped up yet?!

Let's try this again..

Meet the Amphibian Crew — now with upgraded charm, extra wiggles, and faces that should’ve broken the internet by now. They’re two months old, full of bounces and belly flops, and very ready to ditch the shelter and move into someone’s home.

They still need their spay/neuter surgeries — our vets are out until early December — so official adoption day will be on or around December 4th.

Which means…
🖤 You can take one home NOW
🖤 Love them, snuggle them, train them
🖤 And then make it official the moment they’re cleared

Hike with Mike and Waylon: Waylon has a nice fall outing

"Waylon and I set off like a shot. He's tiny but he's got a lot of spirit. On a beautiful fall day we hiked up the Draw, took the elk path cutoff that's lower than the Promontory, and had a couple of excellent sit-down pet and treat sessions.

He moves right along with very little sniffing or investigating and stays close so the leash is short and the tangling is minimal. He likes treats and water in moderation, but what really excited him was my belt pack. He's the first dog among the hundreds I've walked to show any interest in it at all, but when I lay it down behind me, Waylon immediately tugged and pawed at its straps. It's odd because I use the pack only to carry the water bottle and an extra jacket; the treat bag is in my pocket.

Being especially cute during our last stop. He had already tried to chew the pack.
As we descended the west wall of the Draw, the low sun cast our shadow on the east wall. Waylon had a great fall outing."
