Hike with Mike and Indigo: Indigo moseys around the Loop

First Evelyn brought out Freddy, who was immediately reluctant and anxious. He shied away, his tail between his legs. We took a little walk inside the Bark Park, but it was clear he wasn't happy, so back we went. My time with Freddy was so short I didn't even get a picture, but you can see his handsome self on the shelter's website (mountainhumane.org).

Then Evelyn brought out Indigo, a completely different story. She was mellow and friendly and a fan of pets. Unlike most dogs, she moved along without much sniffing; her nose was attuned to only one thing: the enticing scent of animal droppings which she ferreted out with a laser focus.

But the hike itself, up the steep Draw at first, seemed a bit of a chore for her. I thought making it to the top of the Draw would be enough, but once we reached the relatively level ground there, she perked up and we headed for the much steeper upper ridge heading to the Promontory.

Though the day was breezy, I was happy to have my water bottle with me. Indigo, however, was leery about her water delivery system. The water trough was just not to her liking. She would lap a bit of water from my cupped hand, but when I moved my hand to the more plentiful water in the trough, she'd move firmly away. It was only on the way down the last ridge toward the road and the shelter that she finally was able to take a good drink. The summer heat has broken, and the two-hour mosey around the Loop in midday was a refreshing change.

Featured Dog Of The Week: YARROW!

Yarrow – The Playtime Pro

Yarrow is one solid guy with a heart of gold and serious skills in the play department. This fun-loving pup has already made a handful of friends here at the shelter, and what makes him truly special is how perfectly he matches each dog’s play style. He knows when to turn up the energy and when to keep it calm and gentle.

In fact, in this video he’s showing off his best manners with Abby—who’s half his size—and proving just how thoughtful and playful he can be. Yarrow is the kind of dog who brings joy to every playgroup and would love to bring that same energy and companionship into a forever home.

Rehoming a dog doesn’t have to mean a trip to the shelter. Home To Home helps pet owners connect directly with adopters – keeping dogs where they are happiest: in homes, not kennels.

Here are a few of the dogs awaiting this next chapter!
• Bruno (1 year): A gentle giant who would appreciate belly rubs from his new family.
• Luna (2 years): A high energy, playful girl who still has that fun puppy energy.
• Skipper (5 years): A silly, smiley, treat-loving boy who loves to play fetch.
