Meet Fink – Shelter-Born & Ready for Her Big Break! 🐶💫

Fink was born in our care and is now six months old—growing up right here at the shelter. We’ve had the joy of watching her go from a tiny pup to a playful, energetic young dog who’s learning the ropes of the world.

She’s had great playgroup interactions and brings tons of energy and stamina to every game. Tug-of-war is a favorite—and yes, that includes the occasional leash she thinks is a toy (puppy logic!).

Fink is fun-loving, full of personality, and ready to find an active home where she can keep learning, growing, and being her joyful self.

Suzy Needs a Foster! 🐾💛
Suzy is an absolute sweetheart who just needs a soft place to land—as the only dog in the home.

Here’s what Bailey, Animal Care Supervisor, has to say about this lovely girl:
"Suzy is my favorite dog at the shelter. She’s calm, gentle, and loves curling up on a plush bed next to you. She’s polite, easy to read, and lets you know exactly what she wants—usually by standing sweetly right beside it. She’s got high standards for treats and yards, and honestly, she’s just ready to be loved in a real home again."

Suzy is done waiting. Could you be her ticket out of the kennels?

✨Celebrating Our Dedicated Team - Long-Term Employee Highlight: Margie Smith (Finance and HR Manager)✨

This is what Margie has to say:

"In 2018, I moved to Hailey to be closer to my grandsons, and not long after, I joined Mountain Humane to support the accounting and human resources team as the organization prepared to open its new facility.

In my previous roles, the focus was always on growing the bottom line—but here, there’s so much more. At Mountain Humane, the work we do is about heart, compassion, and making a lasting difference for animals and people alike.

Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some truly wonderful, caring people—many of whom have become close friends. I’m constantly inspired by the hard work of our volunteers, staff, and donors who come together to give animals a second chance at life.

It’s always a joy to see our four-legged friends on their journey to finding loving homes, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of that mission. I have three beloved pets of my own—Bea (a pug), Sunshine (a tabby), and Moonbeam (a ginger tabby), all of whom I adopted from Mountain Humane. I truly couldn’t imagine life without them."

Hike with Mike and Lucky : Lucky Bravely Investigates New Valley

"To set the scene:
Place---New Valley behind the shelter where a couple of winters ago a dog and I sensed a cougar
Time---Early summer with lots of reports of awakening rattlesnakes in local hills and valleys

So, for a change of pace from the Loop, Lucky (such a good boy) and I headed on a particularly beautiful June morning to check out New Valley. The anxiety of one of us was palpable. We made our way through a meadow of lush grasses to the now dry bed of Croy Creek. I was on high alert for snakes but saw and heard nothing.

When we clambered up from the creekbed to the valley itself, Lucky was excellent at ferreting out the dim animal trails that wove among the thick sage bushes. On the Loop, shorts work fine because the fire about five years ago took out all the sage, but my long pants served me well on this hike.

The head of the valley forms a T. In the left draw is the copse where there may have been a cougar that time; in the right draw are equally thick trees and bushes, but with a possible way up the slope among the sage. A few steps up---a sudden sound in the bushes, a massive pull on the leash, a deer hopping out onto the opposite slope. Lucky pulled and pulled, but I managed to distract him by heading up our side of the draw. We both struggled with the bushes and the steepness of the slope, and ended our efforts with a long sit-down, a good drink of water, and lots of pets.

Heading back, Lucky again scoped out some efficient game trails through the valley to get us back to the creek. We hit exactly the spot where I had left his p**p bag, and we meandered through the creek bed and grasslands to the shelter."
