Zookeeper Diaries: Just 'hanging' out!
This is Chewy, one of our 2-toed tree sloths. Chewy is in her mid twenties and has been enjoying her retirement from being an ambassador animal. Most tree sloths live 12-20 years in the wild but can live much longer in zoos. Because of her advanced age, Chewy requires routine fluids for support of her kidney function. She does great just hanging-out in her special fluid-receiving-spot and really enjoys the treats she gets for a job well done.

Zookeeper Diaries: Wyatt received a new toy today! His new enrichment toy was made possible by a donation from a patron of the park and was given in memory of the patron's granddaughter who loved the tigers. Thank you so much for your support!

Thanks Folks! For the incredible response to donating your outdated frozen turkeys, chickens, venison, and other raw meats as you clean out your freezers. It sounds like we will be having more than enough coming. Just to clarify, all of our animals are always very well fed. Our request for your outdated meats was not a plea for food. We just thought 'Why toss that old turkey when Lake Tobias could put it to use for you.' It's a win-win for both of us. The surplus meat in our animal food freezers would just be a plus for us. So, Kovu (pictured) and the zookeeping staff Thank You again for your generous offer to drop off your outdated raw meat. www.laketobias.com

Zookeeper Diaries: Leo's lookin' good! Today Leo got a checkup! While under sedation, the vet gave Leo a physical wellness exam, vaccines, bloodwork, a good grooming, and x-rays to look for early signs of arthritis due to his age. (See pictures attached.) At 12 years old, Leo is considered to be a senior. After 15 years old, he would be geriatric. Most males in the wild rarely live past 10, while males in zoos can live into their late teens or twenties. With continued routine vet care, we hope Leo lives a long time!
