Either way, please keep your pets safe with the increased neighborhood activity and non pet-safe foods! We can’t wait to see photos of your festive felines and dapper doggos in their spooky season gear!

Here are some Halloween Pet Safety Tips:

1. Keep Candy Out of Reach – Chocolate, sugar, and artificial sweeteners like xylitol are toxic to pets. Make sure all treats are safely stored where your pets can’t reach them.

2. Watch Decorations and Costumes – Be cautious with decorations like candles, string lights, and small ornaments that pets could chew on or knock over. If your pet is wearing a costume, make sure it’s comfortable, non-restrictive, and doesn’t have small parts that could be swallowed. Never force pets into a costume if they are uncomfortable with it.

3. Secure Pets Indoors – Trick-or-treaters and ringing doorbells can stress pets. Keep them in a safe, quiet space away from the front door to avoid any escape attempts or anxiety from the constant noise.

4. Be Mindful of Glow Sticks – Although not toxic, glow stick contents can cause drooling, irritation, or stomach upset if a pet chews on them. Keep glow sticks away from curious mouths.

5. ID Tags and Microchips – Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip information are up to date, just in case they do manage to slip out.

Retired? Have a free morning during the week? Looking to do something rewarding and make a difference? HEART is looking for morning cleaners for weekdays at our center. Shifts start at 8a and usually last about 3 hours. Duties include: cleaning cages, dishes, laundry and sweeping and mopping of floors and of course playing and snuggling with our resident furry friends. The cats and kittens in our care need you! As promised.. here are some updated pictures of the kittens removed from the burned out building. There are still efforts in place to try and hopefully trap mom.
We are closed to intake, funds are low, adoptions are down and vet bills are mounting. Then we get a call about seven 3 week old kittens found starving and freezing in house that is waiting to be demolished due to fire. So we bite the bullet and take them in cause isn't that what rescue is all about? We do everything possible to help cats and kittens in our own backyard because with winter coming these little ones would not have survived. We are looking for any help for their care and vetting. Bottle babies require so much more love and attention. Thank you always for your support and generosity. We will continue to post updates on these little nuggets are they grow and become big enough for adoption.
