Follow the leader!!
Meet Mona, a sweet momma who recently weaned a litter of puppies. Her new family wasn’t actively looking for a dog, but they saw her photo, and just had to meet her. It’s easy to understand why they instantly fell in love with her. Mona starts off shy and cautious, but once she warms up to you, she has the sweetest demeanor. She really hit the lottery with this family, who is determined to give her the best life. They started to notice signs of separation/isolation anxiety right away, and so they called us to make sure they are setting her up for success.
Adjusting to her new life, Mona has quickly become overly attached to her new mom - to the point where she would race around the house looking for her and howling in panic the second she was out of sight. In a case like this, alone-training is imperative. We talked about simple lessons that can be done at home to get her used to the idea of being alone for varied amounts of time, and to get her positively acclimated to a crate. At our facility, we played some crate games… easing her in, and eventually closing the door, then building duration with rewards. Mona caught on quickly, and we all left our lesson feeling very hopeful.
Her family went home, and set up a crate for her. A few hours later, we received an update that Mona chose to nap in her new crate all on her own!! THESE are the updates we live for! They have had a few setbacks since, but that is to be expected with training. Recent updates describe a girl who can now be left alone for short amounts of time without shrieking and panicking. Baby steps! There’s no question that this sweet girl will be well adjusted and much more confident on her own in no time! Kudos to her new family for all of their hard work and dedication. It’s paying off!! Thanks for choosing us to help 💜

🦋Schmetterling🦋
Schmetta has been taking our group classes, but needed a little bit more attention in a few areas, so her family brought her in for some private training. Having Weimaraners myself, I’m fully aware of how chaotic it can be inside their brains, and the anxiety that often comes with it.
We worked hard on impulse control, and confidence building, while encouraging her to slow down and not overthink everything we asked of her. She is a beautiful, sweet girl with boundless energy - and she may be little, but this girl is STRONG (and strong willed!). We know that her parents dedication to her training will pay off, and we look forward to watching her training progress.
They even brought a gift for Jade (also a Weimaraner) because they’ve fallen in love with her as much as we have fallen in love with Schmetta 💜🦋 Jade says thank you!
Meet River - a 16 week old fluffball made of pure sugar! She will captivate you with her big brown eyes and tiny underbite, melt into a puddle at your feet as you pet her… then quietly untie your shoes and dive bomb you with her razor sharp teeth when you least expect it 🤣 She’ll go from gently kissing you to hanging off your shirt like a baby shark in the blink of an eye….
Is this normal puppy behavior? Sure, it can be! After all, they are just baby dogs learning how to coexist with us in our human world. Sometimes we need to provide an outlet for their craziness, and then create some clear boundaries that they understand. You can bite TOYS, but not clothing. You can get the zoomies in the yard, but maybe not in the kitchen while we are cooking dinner. And NO counter surfing - even if it is adorable to see you tip-toe along like a ballerina 😉
River’s family is not new to dogs, but hasn’t had a puppy in quite some time. They reached out for a private lesson to talk through some of her puppy behaviors, and make sure they are keeping her on the right path as she approaches adolescence. We absolutely LOVE when new puppy owners come in for private training, because we have SO much information to share with them to help make living with a puppy FUN, and hopefully not too overwhelming.
We discussed proper play, and how to give social cues that she will understand when she’s being pushy (and how to remove her teeth from their shirts without accidentally reinforcing “play.” 🤣) We practiced sitting instead of jumping for attention, and proper leash walking techniques (without chewing on the leash), so that her family can start working on good habits while she’s still a very manageable size. We discussed how to introduce her to her older dog family members, and to younger children or visitors who might not appreciate her razor sharp teeth.
Her family left feeling relieved that their puppy is normal after all, and with a plan in place for continued training.
River is - without a doubt - the sweetest little girl, and with some training and boundaries in place, she will absolutely grow up to be a joy of a pet. We look forward to watching her learn and grow! Thanks for choosing us to start your training journey with!

Meet Rocco!
Rocco is the sweetest little rescue dog, who came from a high-kill shelter in Texas, and landed himself with a pretty incredible owner here in Buffalo. He’s just 5 months old, and he’s been used to sleeping in bed with his foster family, so he was a little put-off being crated when he went to his new home. Crating is a really useful and valuable tool to have in your tool belt - ESPECIALLY with a young/adolescent dog whose curiosity could get him into all kinds of trouble. Pair his adolescence with new surroundings, and it’s a recipe for disaster. His mom called us hoping that we could help him learn to like the crate. Upon meeting, mom mentioned that this is her first dog. We absolutely LOVE when we get to have a private lesson with a new dog owner because there is just so much information to share that will help make raising a puppy a more enjoyable and rewarding experience for all involved. We spent some time talking through the basics of puppy owning and boundary setting, and then we moved on to crate training.
When we pulled out the crate, sweet little Rocco panicked a bit. It was very clear that he had a negative association, and it is our jobs to switch it to a positive association. We were able to gently ease him into going in on his own, and learning to sit and eventually lay down and settle instead of screaming at the top of his lungs. We showed him that there’s no reason to worry if we close the door and walk away. By the end of the lesson, he was putting himself in the crate, and waiting patiently for us to notice. It actually took some convincing to get him OUT of the crate to head back home with his mom.
There is no doubt that Rocco will learn to love his crate in no time! Within hours of our lesson, we already received an update that Rocco chose to nap in his crate all on his own. We look forward to watching you learn and grow, Mr. Rocco. Thank you for choosing us to help!!
