ASLAN FOUND HIS PERSON!!! This one warms my heart so, so much. Aslan wants to be a working dog, but a medical issue prevents it. He isn't aware of it, though. And because of this, it has been hard to find the perfect fit for him.

put so much work in to get him trained to live as a good boy in a house, go in public, and settle on place. And she found his person!

Today, they met, and although I wasn't there to witness it, I heard it was love at first sight.
I'm so grateful for Angie for giving this special dog such a good start.

And now we are 3! American K9s turns 3 today. I picked December 26th to officially start American K9s to honor my grandfather's birthday. Charles Everett Bolender was a big hero in my little world.

It's time to set new goals and continue to build this dream. I'm blessed that I stand beside these two amazing young women who share my passion of working dogs. It's fitting that we 3 celebrate our third birthday together.

I am proud of the company we are building and the dogs we are putting out. I'm honored to learn from the giants of our industry. And I'm humbled that I get to wake up each morning thanking God that I get to do what I love.

Here's to the next three and beyond. May God continue to bless us, our clients, and the incredible work they do.

Joining in the Genetics conversation, here are two dogs we tested this month. These videos are short clips after just meeting the dog in the parking lot of a store, taking the dog in without the owner present, and seeing if they will play with us and a toy we brought. The 2 year old pointer had never been in a public store. The lab video was taken during our bathroom test, where we go into the bathroom, turn on the hand dryer, flush the toilets, and play. If there are stalls, we throw the toy under the stalls.
When the pointer owner told me he had never been in public, I said, "Perfect." Because what he's feeling inside will be raw and visible, not masked by training.
I've passed on dogs who wouldn't even come out of the crate in the parking lot. I've passed on dogs who would play everywhere except for the bathroom and stairs. I've passed on dogs who crouch slightly at doors and corners. And of course, I've made mistakes purchasing a dog I hoped we could build.
My mentor said it best when he told me, "You can turn an 8 into an 9, but you can't turn a 5 into an 9."

Is exposing puppies to new environments beneficial? Absolutely! They can learn a certain level of confidence with exposure. More importantly, they can learn to recover. But some dogs will never get over environmental concerns no matter how many times they are exposed. And some dogs are confident even if they have never been exposed.
Talking our puppies on outings twice a week keeps us as trainers aware of where they rank in confidence and how well they are learning to recover. It is a clear indicator when a dog needs a different career path if there are consistent issues without improvement.

But I love it when I see dogs with little to no exposure show the confidence of these two.
I tracked down the breeder to the pointer. Angie and I visited their kennel and bought another puppy from them.
And wouldn't you know, the lab has the same father as many of the labs I put out, and his mother is a pup of a dog I've been longing to add to my breeding programs genetics.

We send our condolences to Ofc Perkins and the Union Township Police Department.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you grieve your partner, K9 Kaos.
The bond that an officer has with his K9 is like no other. He lives and works with his K9 who is partner and family. He spends more time with his K9 than any other creature on earth. Which is why this loss is so difficult.
We are here for you, Ofcr Perkins, if you need anything.

Join me in congratulating Miss Melodie (.n.bombs ) & K9 Jinx! They certified on Explosives and Fi****ms Detection yesterday in Interior, Exterior, Vehicles & Containers. They will go on to cerify on Mobile Odor, then will be working to keep kids in Chicago-land safe.
Melodie has been quick to adapt to Jinx's intense, fast-paced style, picking up on her cues when she is in odor, and being patient with her moments of frustration while learning new skills.
Melodie came to us in search of her next partner with the same training theories in mind. This allowed her to understand the process we use and easily continue it as she slowly took over the human end of the leash.
Jinx seemed to understand very quickly that Melodie was soon to be her permanent partner. When a dog I raise ends up meshing with her new partner the way Jinx did, it's easy for me to say goodbye. Because I know the bond like no other has begun, and that is what I want for each dog I sell.
K9 Jinx was raised and trained at American K9s as Ella, Eleanor the First Lady, and bred by Rolling 6 Labradors.

Is anyone in the Cincinnati area available this Saturday morning (11/16) to help us out at the airport around 10? I need decoys for a mobile explosives dog in training. I will pay your gas and parking. You will walk around baggage claim with a suitcase, or with a training odor in your pocket. Our dog will locate you and follow until rewarded.
We have a couple but could use a few more.
