We are downsizing our flock as we approach the end of summer. We have 10 jumbo brown hens, 3 jumbo brown roosters, 4 celadon roosters, 1 black rooster, 11 assorted chicks that are about 2 weeks old and about 25 assorted chicks that are 1 week old. If anyone is interested, feel free to reach out. Everyone is laying and breeding and in good health. All mature birds are between 8 weeks and 3 months old. Message us for details. We entered some birds from our Blue EB line in the Pips N Chicks Virtual Open and Youth Quail shows this month!

We were so excited to have taken 1st-5th place in the other Extended Brown open category and 2nd in youth. Even more exciting was judge Michael Rose’s honorable mention and words of encouragement on keeping up the good work with our line. He seemed pleased with what he saw and there is no one better to receive a quail conpliment from!

We are excited to continue our work with these beauties 🩵 💙

It's time for us to upgrade our incubation equipment, which means we are selling the two Hatching Time CT60SH Incubator/Hatchers that we purchased in April 2023. They sell for $699 via the Hatching Time website, so we are selling these for $400 each. They are in perfect working order and are clean. We used them consistently over the past year and have yielded excellent hatch rates- Hatching Time equipment is fantastic. Pickup only in Hamilton, NJ.

The thing I love most about our Blue EB project line is the variance in shade and pattern of these guys. Though we are breeding toward a lighter, less gradient appearance for our main line, I still love the variety 💙 🩵

In celebration, we are giving away a dozen hatching eggs to someone whose mom really wants some quail this season— or who is a mom who really wants to hatch some quail this season!

We had some questions about our Blue EB project line we are working on. These disheveled little guys are some of our chicks and grow outs we have coming up. We are breeding toward a lighter color with less gradient patterning visible. These are our focal project right now along with our very strong jumbo brown line and thriving Red Range Tuxedo celadon line. We are excited for what’s to come. Update: they all have a home 🏡 Thank you!

📣 Happy Saturday! 🌹 We are so excited to continue to grow our Blue EB line here at the Quirky Quail Homestead! They’re such beautiful birds and our projects are looking really nice!

With that, we are downsizing our other lines and will be discontinuing our black line altogether. We have 4 breeding sets of blacks (1 male & 2 females in each set) who are around 4-6 months old that are available is anyone is interested in adding to their covey or starting a small black line themselves.

The black coturnix do best in smaller groups like these because they are so docile that the males have decreased breeding interest and fertility rates will be lower with more females.

We get a lot of messages, so these guys will be sold on a first come, first served basis and we will update this post when they’re all claimed- you may make a payment to hold them until you’re able to pick up. Pickup only, we don’t ship live birds.

Nj and local friends, you’ve gotta check out The Bubbly Goat. Our littles cannot get enough of the baby goat snuggles and the folks that run it are so knowledgeable, it’s a great experience for the whole family. This was our 2nd or 3rd trip, and we have more fun each time. I hope one day we can add goats to the homestead!

Seriously, take your kids here, you won’t regret it. (They also have a little store of homemade soaps, lotions, and candles that are to die for, so if you’ve gotten ‘goat milk soap’ from us in your homestead Christmas basket- this is the source)

‼️Important Chick News ‼️

Our incubators are OVERFLOWING with eggs 🪺 that will be hatching later this month. If you are on our waitlist 📋for chicks 🐣 OR want to be on our list for chicks, please reach out via messenger, email or text. The failure-of-technology-fairy 🧚 visited us and our official waitlist 📝 document is gone 😩 We are piecing together the orders and requests that we have gotten for chicks, but please reach out if you are waiting for chicks or would like to be on the list for this batch— we should have plenty to go around.

➡️ This is also the very last batch of our full assortment of chicks. After this batch, we are downsizing some of our varieties and focusing more on our Red Range Tuxedo Celadon line, Jumbo Browns, and our favorite Blue EBs. We will still keep a small assorted flock of favorites, but the variety will decrease after this go-round.

Every spring 🌹 we strive to support as many local teachers 👩‍🏫 as we can as they teach our youth about hatching chicks 🐣 ! If you or someone you know is a teacher (public school, homeschool, etc) and is interested in hatching quail 🪺 this year with their students, please reach out to us! We would love to donate a dozen of our hatching eggs 🥚 to our amazing community educators! All of our hatching eggs come with complete lifecycle instructions and you may keep the chicks 🐥 if you’d like, or we can take them back after hatching. If you’d like the full experience, we offer hatching bundles on our website that includes an incubator, heater, waterer, feeder, everything you neeed to incubate and brood your chicks!
