**🐴 $5 Friday: Help Us Make a Difference! 🐴**

All $5 Friday donations go towards our $2000 match offer! If we can raise the remainder $1091 we will get a $2000 matched donation! ❤️

Hey everyone, it’s that time again! If you love horses and believe in second chances, here’s an easy way to support our mission. Your $5 might not seem like much, but when our community comes together, it can create a massive impact!

🌾 At Southern Twang Second Chance Ranch, every dollar goes directly to feeding, caring for, and rehabilitating the horses who come to us from heartbreaking situations—neglected, abandoned, or facing a grim future. With your help, we’re able to turn their stories around and give them the happy, healthy lives they deserve.

🐎 Your $5 today could help buy a bale of hay for a hungry horse, cover a portion of a much-needed vet visit, or go toward training supplies to prepare a horse for their forever home.

💚 If you can spare just $5 (or more!), please donate via www.stscr.org

Every contribution, big or small, is a step closer to making sure these horses get the care they need.

🌟 If you can’t donate today, please share this post! Together, we can build a brighter future for these incredible animals. Thank you for your support and for believing in second chances.

Congratulations Boomer! Old men get adopted too!

Sweet Boomer in his later years still has lots of energy and pep in his step! Enough to be a sweet, 7-year-old girl’s Lesson horse!

Congratulations on Boomer and his new family! And I also want to thank Southern Twang Second Chance Ranch for shelter transferring him to us!

It just shows how we rescues can help more horses by working together!

This made my whole day—honestly, it might have made my whole month. 🥹❤️

Rescue isn't just about bringing horses in and rehabilitating them ourselves. It’s also about sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and being there for others who are trying to help a horse in need—whether they've rescued it or find themselves unable to continue care.

I’m so grateful I could help her with a tailored refeeding plan, sharing the methods we've developed over years of experience. Seeing how well it worked for her rescued horse, just as it has for over 100 other severely emaciated horses, fills me with pride. He looks phenomenal now—healthy, strong, and truly thriving. ❤️🥹

My approach to refeeding goes against the grain of traditional methods like the UC Davis plan, which I’ve seen fail too often, especially for horses that haven’t eaten at all. In 12 years, we’ve never lost a horse to refeeding syndrome with our method. It’s been fine-tuned over time, and I stand by it, especially for cases where a horse is dangerously thin. For these horses, the standard approach with alfalfa can be too rich, and I simply don’t think it’s the safest path.

We’re also cautious about deworming and dental care in emaciated horses. We wait until their body score has improved significantly—going from below a 3 to a 4 or higher—before considering any of those procedures. Deworming too soon can lead to scours or colic, and floating teeth under anesthesia can put unnecessary strain on a severely underweight horse.

If you or someone you know has questions about refeeding, or if you're struggling with a horse's body condition, please reach out or check out our refeeding video. I’m always here to share what I’ve learned.

Helping horses and empowering others to help their own is what I love most about rescue work. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing the light come back into a horse's eyes—the life returning to something that was so broken. It’s those moments that sustain me when things get hard, when donations slow, or when the weight of daily challenges feels overwhelming. These successes remind me that I’m doing what I’m meant to do.

I didn't go to school for this, and I’m not a vet. But I’ve dedicated years to learning what works, often challenging the conventional wisdom. I know my approach isn’t for everyone, and I’ve faced criticism for standing by it. But I’ve also seen horses saved, time and time again, when they might have been lost using more traditional methods.

I feel truly honored that this horse’s life was entrusted to my guidance, and that his caregiver put her faith in a plan that goes against the mainstream. It’s a reminder that, sometimes, following your own path can make all the difference. I’ll go to bed tonight with a full heart, so grateful for her trust and so happy for them both. ❤️🥹

Wish I took a before photo! This is the number one pasture that hadn’t been ever touched really… rocks of all sizes scattered, underbrush, dead trees- etc. I’ll get better photos tomorrow but it cleaned up super nice.

I spent about 5.5 hrs on scraping/picking pastures and this pasture clean out today after the farrier came to trim lily and trim/put new shoes on gramps. All I need to do now is get the huge dirt/rock pile sifted and spread and the brush burned. If you look behind P, you can see the HUGE pile 😂

💜💚Gladys & Guinness-20&18yrs-Gladys can be ridden for trails- Guinness is companion only.

🩵🩷Chewy & Betsy-25+yrs and 17yr
Betsy can be ridden- VERY well broke- but needs daily previcox, as she’s an x roping horse and all her pasterns are arthritic.
Chewy is companion only.- May tote a small child- he’s still spunky, though he is thinner and has a large benign tumor in his throat that can’t be removed and he just needs to live out his days alongside Betsy.

Bonded means MUST be adopted together.

$6️⃣5️⃣0️⃣
1 Pony-
🩷Gracie-20yr old appy Pony-leadline
Has cushings- needs shaved in spring

$9️⃣5️⃣0️⃣
2 trail horses
💙Artex- 18+yr standardbred gelding- broke but needs refreshed- black- 15.3hh- blind in left eye- doesn’t bother him.

💛Atlas- 20yr old- 14.1hh sorrel gelding- broke and well mannered. Partially blind in left eye- doesn’t bother him.

$1️⃣2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣-$1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣
🩵Zoom- registered AQHA “Zoomin in my hocks.”- 2018 sorrel gelding. Has EPM but levels were low- we initially thought Lyme but test was negative- 84 for EPM count and highest is 600+ so he’s borderline but responding well to treatment.- current compounded medication is $250/month. He’s progressing super well on it- is a great weight- recommended two more months of epm treatment- will come with the meds he’s on. 15.3hh

❤️Reba- 5yr sorrel mare- was started at one point but not selling as broke at all- we will be putting her in training next week if she’s not adopted by then, price will then go up. She’s 14.3hh- thick- sweet- has had some issues with standing tied but have solved that with some ground manner training though she has her days she can be moody. She was starved and nearly died when we rescued her. Has a wonky eye on right side from smacking her face on something when setting back but has vision- it’s just cross eyed

💜Lily- 18yr Belgian mare. 17.2hh
Sweet as pie- her hooves are HORRIBLE- they were worse when she came to us, but with corrective trimming and lots of hoof supplements she is getting better every day. She’s a big sweet girl- companion only- at least until her hooves grow more- they were split in several places and are trying to come in whole.

$2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣-
🧡Delta- 3yr old 14hh filly. Sorrel- green broke- can get cold backed but not anything an intermediate/experienced horse person can’t handle. Riding her daily stops that from happening- but she’s had about 45 days total under saddle and doing well. Short, good minded, thick little girl. Great project for someone to finish out.
