When or if you should spay/neutered your dog! Here's a chart on when you should do so. It's not always best to alter your dog asap.. it can cause issues to the dogs over all health by interfering with joint growth..especially with Giant breed like Great Pyrenees, mastiff and St Bernards(just a few examples) they need to be 2 years old, unless there's a serious health issue! Any vet that pushes before should be looked as a red flag. Yes it's way cheaper, but blown ACL and shoulders later will cost you way more.
If your dog has any genetic defects. And against breed rules.. alter your dog. There's enough dogs out there we don't need to keep breeding health issues.. like skin conditions, breathing(issyes often found in short muzzled faces like pugs, bostons and frenchies), hearing(merle-to-merle, or lots of white hearing dogs, white boxers or Dobermans) and the tiny toys that have seizures or bad teeth.
If you don't want puppies then alter your dog. Ask your breeder, buy from a good breeder, that also has a vet recommendation, on when and who to use.. And just cause you have a male does mean you wont be responsible for it..he ll roam and get into trouble.
If your dog is the a prime example for that breed.. and your possibly thinking of breeding then wait to alter.
Do not keep breeding puppies just cause your dog is special to you or you want to make your money back on thr pup you just bought. There's so many out there that are special and need homes. Lol
Anyway check out the breed chart below, and ask your vet their opinion
