Our last office dog got adopted, so we have recruited another helper. Please help us in welcoming our newest front desk worker, Willie!

🩵 Willie is 4 years old
💚 Great customer service (very attentive to their needs)
🩵 Slow on the keyboard as his drool gets in the way
💚 Knows when he needs to step away to use the potty
🩵 Loves spending break time playing with toys
💚 Great with dog co-workers
🩵 Loves working with families with children

We think Willie will be a great asset to the front desk, but would like to help him find a forever home! He’s a great squishy pup that would fit most families lifestyles!💚

If you are interested in meeting Willie, come on in!

✨Reigna Update✨

For those that don't know Reigna, she came to us on May 30th with a bad case of puppy strangles. While she is still not in the clear, we are happy to say Reigna has improved so much! She is showing some signs of regression (normal for how bad her case was) so she is starting another round of medications. At this time, we are focusing on her health and until we feel she is ready, she will not be available for adoption.

Reigna came in yesterday to visit the vet and all the staff. We were all amazed at how well she is doing and are so happy to see her becoming a regular spunky puppy. She is so lucky to be with a wonderful foster that is helping her heal everyday! 🩷

Thank you to everyone that has donated to the care of Reigna and all the other animals Animal Friends care for every day! Donations like yours help us save lives like Reigna's.

If you would like to donate to the care of all animals, including Reigna, at Animal Friends, you can do so by donating on this post directly, through PayPal, on our website, in person, or over the phone. Donations of any amount help us to continue the life saving work we provide to Butler County and support over 150 animals currently residing in our facility.

The Hot Pocket is finally cooled off!🥵

Hot Pocket came in as a stray on June 14th. Upon arrival, we noticed how overheated he was. Thankfully our on staff vet tech went to work on him and get his temperature down with fluids. While attending to his heat stroke, we realized his paw pads were all torn off and he had suffered some other scraps that are concurrent with being hit by a car.

Hot Pocket has recovered well from the heat, and is now available for adoption. He is great with humans, very well mannered, and okay with low energy dogs.

Come meet him any day during our operating hours!☀️

This heat is no joke when it comes to your pets. Please be on the look out for heat stroke and keep your dog cool indoors. Possible signs of heat stroke are the following:
Panting
Noisy breathing
Excessive drooling
Unsteady gait
Weakness
Vomiting and diarrhea
Decreased responsiveness
Seizures

If your pet seems to be overheating, move the animal to a cool place and apply cool water (NOT ice packs) to their body. If they are suffering heatstroke, please seek medical attention from an Emergency Vet.

Proof is in the photos...FOSTERING SAVES LIVES.

Miss Penny came to us as a stray on June 14th. She was terrified when found by wardens after being thrown from a car and left in a park in Liberty Twp. The warden had to snare pole Penny as she was fearful and not letting the warden near her. Once at the shelter, staff began trying to win her over through baby talk and treats.

Now enter the stars of the story! A wonderful foster took Penny into their home the next day. That is when we saw Penny flourish! She is great with other dogs and every person she has met. She is crate trained and so close to being housebroken. It is amazing that a little bit of TLC can bring out the wonderful side to a heartbroken dog.

Penny is now available for a forever home. We have aged her at a year and half. She is sweet and quiet per her foster. To apply for Penny, please email an app to [email protected] :https://www.animalfriendshs.org/media/user/adopt/AFHS%20Adoption%20Application%202023-06.pdf

To become a hero like Penny's foster, send in an application to become a foster: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSctMHVHq-eY7TKqXDyzkbLL7iWI4Jjmr77UMaCWhV0mWbZCIw/viewform

It’s a hot one out there and we are lucky to be a cool place for the stray dogs to come to when they are lost☀️

If you are looking for your hot dog like this one below, please come in and look for them. We can not verify your dog is in our facility, because no one knows your dog as well as you do! All stray dogs are listed on our website (https://www.animalfriendshs.org/resources/lose-find-a-pet/did-you-lose-a-pet/).

As for this lady below, she was found yesterday in Milford Twp. in the 5500 block of Wayne Milford Rd. She is wearing a brown collar. Now that she is cooled off, she would love to get home!

Please share this post so this pup can find her way home!

Being the office pup is hard work! 😓

Kane has spent a quiet morning in the front office keeping our front desk girls company. In all honesty, we forget he’s there since he’s SO quiet!!

This cuddle bug loves getting all the attention and pets from everyone he meets. He’s met kids and covers them in kisses! He has shown interest in cats, so a slow introduction would be best. We have him aged at 1 year old and weighs about 70 pounds of squish! Kane loves other dogs and enjoys playgroup Fridays.

If you are in need of someone to fill that blanket space on your couch, come meet Kane!

Can’t adopt? Share this boy’s pouty lip so he can find his forever home!

🌟Service Project Spotlight! 🌟

We are so lucky that Emily choose AFHS and our dogs to do her Eagle Scout project for. Below is a blurb about Emily and her project!

" I had been a Girl Scout for 12 years and expanded my Scouting experience when I joined Scouts BSA Troop 1750 about 4 years ago. When I was choosing my Eagle project, I decided I wanted to work with an animal shelter, and I chose Animal Friends Humane Society because they are such a big, active shelter. I felt that by choosing a bigger shelter, my project would have more of an impact on the animals I was trying to help. The dogs in animal shelters don't always have a lot of variety in their lives, so I wanted to do something to help expose them to new scents and textures, while giving the dogs and the volunteers something fun to do and see on walks. That's how I ended up choosing to create enrichment planters to put along the trails. "

Please enjoy the photos of Emily and Scouts BSA Troop 1750's hard work. Bonus photos of our Volunteers and dogs enjoying their new scent enrichment on the trails!

😺🐴🐶How many times have you heard: " Were not keeping it!', " Don't bring it home. I don't care how cute you say it is.", " We already have too many animals in this house.", " Why are you going to AFHS to look at the animals." and (my personal favorite) " No I'm not going to build you that chicken coop." 🐔🐰🐐

We want you to post the cutest and funniest 📷 photos or videos of the men in your lives with the animals they've said those exact things about. Also, y'all can give up the act, we know you love them the moment you see them. And we know your excited that you get to build something for them. And that you've gaining a buddy that will pal around with you and will listen to you talk and not butt in .... like you claim we do.

💗Extra Special thanks to anyone that fills this role for those of us that work in animal welfare. Ya'll are the true hero's. You might not wear capes, but you sure know where the treats, toys and p**p scoopers are! Thank for putting up with and loving our, " Oh, I forgot to tell you I was bring it home" animals. 💗

❗️❗️ Enrichment Donations Needed ❗️❗️

☀️ Dog-gone it's gonna be a hot one ALL next week. To help the animals beat the heat, we wanted to offer them some cool and frozen treats to get them through these 90-degree days.

Our Enrichment Coordinator checked our fridge and freezer and noticed were out of and running low on some of the dog's favorite fruits along with cottage cheese and yogurt. You will see the list below of safe fruits. We give the Yogurt and Cottage Chesse to the dogs in moderation. 🥥Coconut Milk is a good change, and makes the dogs fur silky soft. Whipped Cream because let's face it all dogs love a pup cup!

🍎🍉🍌Safe fruits for dogs are apples, bananas, strawberries, watermelon, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, cranberries, honeydew, mangos, oranges, peaches and pineapple. We just ask that they not be canned. They can be fresh or frozen. 🍍🍑🍓🍊

❤️THANK YOU! ❤️THANK YOU! ❤️THANK YOU!

We asked and you answered! We're getting Nylabone's in daily to restock! The dogs were excited for their new toys today. Next week be on the lookout for cat and kittens playing with their new toys! And dogs enjoying their fillable bones and new fancy flavored peanut butter! Give everyone some exciting new things to do to help beat the heat we have coming!

Our animals are the luckiest to have such a support system.

Please enjoy the photo's of the dogs loving their new bones!

And of course, Lucky got his first pick!

If you're a musician🎸 who adores animals and is seeking a supportive audience for your music 🎹 , we have an opportunity for you! We're looking for volunteers to spend a few hours playing live music🎻 for dogs in adoption. Bonus points if you can play Reggae tunes🥁 , as the dogs absolutely love them! A recent experiment showed that the dogs thoroughly enjoyed the live music experience, and we're eager to do it again. If interested, please contact [email protected] to get involved.

Below you can watch a video, of one of our dedicated volunteers, who works with multiple programs here at AFHS, share his love of music and preforming with our dogs.
