On , we're sharing a few important reminders on the importance of microchips - such as:

➡ 1 in 3 family pets will get lost
➡ Microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners and microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be returned to their owners

And remember - while microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate. Visit avma.org/CheckTheChip to learn more.

Here’s a sneak peak of the new building! We are absolutely loving our new forever home! We are planning to have an official grand opening after the parking lot and exterior grounds are complete. Stay tuned for more information on that in the next few weeks. We can’t wait to welcome you and your furry family members to Agri-Pet!

Thanks to our builder, Jim Danis with Construction Managers of Ohio and our on site supervisors, Austin and David for making our dream a reality! Special thanks to my family for countless hours of hard work and to my friends that helped with special projects.

Our fabulous new building is almost complete!

***Our office will be CLOSED this Thursday, May 22, through Monday, May 26th so that we can move into the new building.**

During this time we will not be available to see patients or refill medications as our team members will all be working hard to help during the move. If your pet needs to be seen urgently, we recommend taking them to one of our local ER or Urgent Care's during this time. We recommend Grady Veterinary Hospital, CARE Center, MedVet or Mission Vet Urgent Care.

We will re-open on Tuesday, May 27th to start seeing patients in the new building! The new building is located directly behind the old building, and we will be using a side entrance to enter the building for the next few weeks while the old building is being demolished.

Thank you to our wonderful clients for your understanding during this time!

The prevelance of Lyme disease for dogs in Butler county for 2025 is 2.7% according to the Companion Animal Parasite Council. The same holds true for the dogs tested at Agri-Pet. Our Heartworm 4dx test screens for Heartworms and several diseases spread by ticks, including Lyme disease, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia. From April 2024 to April 2025 1130 dogs were tested and 31 were positive for Lyme disease.

Each year we have seen an increase in the number of dogs testing positive for Lyme disease in our area. The best way to avoid your pet getting sick is to be proactive in protecting them. A reliable tick-preventative product recommended by your veterinarian, as well as vaccination, are the strongest protections for your dog.

May is Lyme Disease Prevention Month

What causes Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is caused by infection with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. The bacteria are transmitted to humans and animals through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks, such as deer ticks. These ticks are really tiny! Can you spot the 5 nymphal blacklegged ticks on this poppyseed muffin?

Have you every wondered how dogs and cats get heartworms?
The mosquito plays an essential role in the heartworm life cycle. Adult female heartworms living in an infected dog, fox, coyote, or wolf produce microscopic baby worms called microfilaria that circulate in the bloodstream. When a mosquito bites and takes a blood meal from an infected animal, it picks up these baby worms, which develop and mature into “infective stage” larvae over a period of 10 to 14 days. Then, when the infected mosquito bites another dog, cat, or susceptible wild animal, the infective larvae are deposited onto the surface of the animal's skin and enter the new host through the mosquito’s bite wound. Once inside a new host, it takes approximately 6 months for the larvae to develop into sexually mature adult heartworms. Once mature, heartworms can live for 5 to 7 years in dogs and up to 2 or 3 years in cats. Because of the longevity of these worms, each mosquito season can lead to an increasing number of worms in an infected pet.
