Well, it has taken me a while to get this post up, but Great Lakes HRC put on another awesome hunt test weekend! we had great weather, challenging tests, and an awesome party! I’m so proud to be a part of a club that works so hard and so well together! After what had been a pretty awesome Spring, Team Red Dog kinda  took it on the chin, going 4/8. Everyone was running finished, some for the first time, and the young’uns we’re just in a little bit over their heads. No hard feelings, now we know what to work on. I will add some photos in the comments, but the video below shows the highlight of my weekend! Ms. Grace Walbeck making her HRC handling debut…and she chose a red dog!

Tonight, we went back to work on some shortcomings that showed their heads this weekend. Cheaty marks, poison birds, and conflicting blinds. We’re running with some “big dogs” this weekend and want to be ready!

What a weekend! Had a great time with the Ohio River Hrc folks! Team Red Dog went 6/6 with two Seasoned passes and four Finished passes. The young’uns really showed out! Maui smashed her Seasoned tests with style (although blind work still has work to do) and Reina was putting it all together. The spring season is off to a great start!

This was todays FT set up. We did a ”walk away” retired on 3 and 2 was an out of order flyer. Blinds were run as a separate series.

Saturday’s setup was a hunt test look. We picked up 3 & 2, then ran poison bird blind, then picked up 1. Initiates that they cross the point on 3 and get in the water in the way to 1.

What a great way to end the Southern Swing! Two great days running dogs with the Tri State HRC folks were the perfect cap to a great week! Great tests and judges and some truly awesome people made for an enjoyable stop on the way home! Thanks for the hospitality.

Also, congrats to these three young dogs who each completes their first (and second) HRC tests by going 2/2 in Started. The crew went 9/10 on the weekend!

Last day before a test weekend, so we kept things upbeat and quick today. Three “Out to Sea” water marks for the youngsters running Started and two blinds for the big dogs. The blinds were tougher than designed and led to some drama, but everyone learned something!

Went full hunt test on them this morning. We’d been working hard on punch birds in white coats and huge hat fields, so let’s see when you put it all together in the “real world!”
