Please keep Dr. Michele Stafford and her family in your prayers today as she just lost the last of her first babies to cancer last night. All four of her older babies have now crossed the rainbow bridge and are together now, both of her older Frenchies were her heart, were there through thick and thin, the worst and best of times, from high school, undergrad, vet school, two children of her own, and through the many trials and tribulations of opening her own business. ‘Until we meet again’. Keeping both your dogs and cats on consistent year round heartworm and flea prevention is so important, especially in our state of Louisiana. Feel free to give us a call at 985-320-8716 if you would like to schedule an appointment to get your pet heartworm tested and started on heartworm prevention today! We are open from Thursdays to Mondays from 8 am-6 pm. Keeping your pet on prevention can help prevent heartworm disease and keep your pet living a long, healthy, and happy life. It is almost guaranteed that your dog will become infected with heartworms if they are not on prevention as this is spread by mosquitos and are a given in Louisiana, and even if your pet stays mostly inside, mosquitos still get in your house as well. It only takes that one bite from an infected mosquito for your pet to become heartworm positive-and from there, the heartworms begin causing permanent heart and lung damage that is irreversible.
Even for this big dog, heartworms are a BIG Problem!

Not sure if you're aware, but parvo season is upon us! Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that commonly affects puppies. This virus causes severe GI illness such as vomiting and diarrhea. The mortality rate of puppies with untreated parvovirus is around 90%. Even with treatment, the mortality rate is still fairly high. Which is why it is so important to vaccinate your puppies. One of our most favorite patients and frequent flyer sweet baby Frenchie, Ruger, accidentally fell and hurt his leg and now hims has to wear a cast. Fingers crossed that he heals up well! Despite everything he still left trying to play and wagging his tail as if nothing ever happened! He’s a brave little boy and we just love him so much!
Meet our sweet little foster clinic kitten that is still on the mend after he was attacked by another cat. He originally came in malnourished, infested with fleas and intestinal parasites, anemic, couldn’t walk as his limbs were covered with abscesses, lacerations, and puncture wounds everywhere. He’s looking and feeling much better than he did, and we even had to surgically go in and remove a tooth from his attacker that was still embedded in his leg after his attack! We’re still thinking about name ideas so feel free to throw some suggestions our way! He is a little handsome baby!
