We got positive and encouraging feedback fm Dr. Sutherland, Amy DVM and Brittany Creel at Crossroads Cat Clinic yesterday.

Nathaniel has gained 1 whole pound. His wounds are healing and he has phovia therapy. His color had improved, so anemia is better .

His spirits and gentle personality shine through no matter what’s going on He purred and loved through it all.

❤️‍🩹Nathaniel update ❤️‍🩹

He was evaluated and treated at our vet today Dr. Sutherland, Amy DVM at Crossroads Cat Clinic.

His care included:
combo test, labs , X-rays, sedated for bath and wounds to be cleaned, phovia light therapy to his wounds, b-12 injection for anemia and fluids.

Findings-❤️‍🩹
Nathaniel is pretty anemic, a lot of his skin very friable, especially around his wounds. He was sedated for
wounds clipped and cleaned. He also received a bath while sedated; which is less stressful, but necessary, considering how dirty and soiled he was.
He is very emaciated and malnourished. With good nutrition and care, hopefully, his wounds will heal. He was very underweight and emaciated.

He has a great appetite and finally urinated and had a bowel movement. All of this is good news !!

He looks sooo much better. I know he has to feel better. He has a long road ahead, but we will get there. He has a will to live and like last night, purred and gave head butts through it all today.

He is continuing to received antibiotics and will have a recheck and another phobia light therapy on Thursday.

Thank you Dr Amy and Brittany Creel for always accommodating our kitties 🐈‍⬛ 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
We could NOT do what we do, without the clinics that have a heart for rescue.

We love us some Nathaniel 💜💜💜

‼️Warning , Graphic pic‼️

Always, always, follow your heart 💜

When I received a message to help this guy, I couldn’t get his picture off my mind . We are overwhelmed with numbers, but sometimes certain cats have to come in. Some pull on your heart strings.

His name is : Nathaniel,
Meaning “a gift fm God”

He is safe and sound tonight. He appeared at a local store in the last 3 days. How he got there and why??????
We will never know , but he is 🍀 LUCKY🍀 His fate was not good based on what we see.
Begging for food, trying to get in vehicles. Emaciated, dehydrated, hungry, loving , vulnerable, full of wounds, faded purple paint 🎨 on him 🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨
(Do you know what that means?) for an animal to be painted . Likely used as bait , yes bait.
In 16yrs of rescue, he’s the 1st I have seen like this, that actually survived.

This guy is full of old and fresh open wounds.
INSPITE of what he has been through, he is pure love. ❤️ Yes, begs for loving. He has trusted me tonight as I treat his wounds, feed, clean, give fluids, antibiotics, intake meds etc….. Purrs through it all. My heart breaks for this cat. I’m not one to shed tears , but have cried over this guy
😢 Please keep him in your thoughts and prayer 🙏🏻

When will the overwhelming needs stop, we can NOT keep up. The needs are worse than ever.

For every cat someone spay/neuters you save hundreds and help prevent the suffering and neglect the homeless cats endure.

He has a long way to go, but will shine and be a beautiful guy soon.

Ellie wants to announce our new Chewy wish list !!!!!!!!

We have had a few people ask how they can send food and other items we need. We can always use anything from this list. We are feeding and caring for lots of cats/kittens here. It cost a fortune to keep up with even the basic needs. The cats are not picky and very much appreciate your support.

Chewy is the most reasonable place to order and It is easy and convenient, ships right to us. They also have a great deal right now on many items, spend $100.00 and get a $30.00 gift card. Every few months when they run this special, we make 9 orders, yes 9.

Let’s take a moment to meet a special guy that we trapped a few weeks ago. His name is “Kiki”

We were shocked to find out he had been SHOT in both front legs and walked around like this over a month😢

He was a stray that a local person was feeding . The feeder noticed he went missing a few days and then came up with bloody wounds and barely able to walk. After a few weeks of feeding him and making him a make shift set of steps to get up to his outside food , he began to heal but still limped and was dragging one leg.

We set a trap and got him. It was was not clear on what his injuries were.

Well…… he went to our vet at Crossroads Cat Clinic for neuter and evaluation. We were absolutely shocked and the findings . This poor guy had been shot in both front legs. Bilateral ulnars were shattered, but he was still walking on 1 leg and dragging the other.

With the bones being shattered there was nothing to even pin so we decided to give him strict cage rest .
We are relieved to report that after 3.5 weeks, his right leg has almost completely calloused over and healed and his left leg is healing. He is using both kegs . We were thrilled with his repeat X-rays. He is a bit feral but loves him some loving if he knows you 🙂

Needless to say he will remain on cage rest another week and then acclaimed here as a sanctuary cats .

Guys, we have so many medical long term cats here and it cost a fortune. They have no one, no check book or payment source. They come in with NO hope. This is ongoing and so heartbreaking.

He has been neutered, vaccinated, Combo tested, on pain medication, 2 rounds of antibiotics and 2 trips to the vet for X-rays which required he be sedated.

This is where your donations get spent. In many, many cats like this guy. He has a future and will never be shot at or hurt again. Another reason to SPAY/NEUTER. Kiki lived a hard rough life . He is full of battle scars:(

When un altered , they roam and are a nuisance to others that aren’t always so nice .

If you would like to donate to his care. We have provided our Venmo and PayPal link.

THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS HELPING US MAKE A DIFFERENT 😻

Thank You Crossroads Cat Clinic for recognizing us and always going the extra mile to meet the needs and care for our cats.

We are so Thankful for having such a wonderful clinic that accommodates us . We could not do this with their dedication. Rescue is hard and never ends. The needs, care , trapping, cleaning, medicating, transporting to appointments….. it’s take a team of dedicated people and then some.

We are overwhelmed with adults and kittens. Adoptions are at an all time low and owner surrenders are higher than ever. We are in a nation wide crisis and the animals are suffering. Adoption is a lifetime commitment, not just a convenient thing to do for the here and now.

🔸Adopt a shelter pet 😻
🔸Volunteer at a rescue or shelter
🔸Donate to help us keep our doors open
🔶Always SPAY/NEUTER
🔶Support local businesses

If you are looking for a quiet low stress environment, we recommend using Dr. Amy Sutherland Palisi at Crossroads Cat clinic, and don’t let the words fool you . They see dogs as well. Every appt is made for you and your pet to have a one on one quiet visit. While they love cats, they love dogs 🐕 as well🥰

June is National Adopt a Cat Month. We are honored to have Purrs of Hope as a rescue that trusts us with their veterinary care, spay/neuters, TNR, and everything in between. If you or someone you know is thinking of adding a cuddly fur ball into their home, please get in touch with Purrs of Hope. We see the love and care that is given to each and every cat that comes into their care. No matter their history, which are often rough starts, they are loved from day one. Even if you aren’t looking for a new friend, consider donating. Every penny counts, and it goes to caring for cats in our area that have often been discarded, by no fault of their own.

TRUTH 😻😻😻 Excellent read and full of information 😻😻👍👍

Take a minute to read till the end ❤️ WOW,WOW,WOW❤️

I would like to apologize to you for every animal rescuer you feel has ever let you down, been less than cheerful or said no to helping you. I would also like to explain to you why you need to extend grace to all of them. ❤️

They are all volunteers. This means on top of their normal lives (YES! Rescuers have jobs, spouses, children, friends, parents, pets of their own, foster animals, cars that break down, doctors appointments, grass to mow, laundry to fold, etc.) they CHOOSE to help people because they deeply care about the welfare of animals.

All day long they hear or read:
❗️Oh my gosh, please go help that poor cat right now!
❗️I really need your help! I've got 8 cats here and 2 are pregnant.
❗️I couldn't afford to get my cat fixed, but she is indoor only so I thought it was fine. But she got out and now she's pregnant. I need you to help me get her fixed and I'll give the kittens away.
❗️I need you to come out and get rid of all these cats!
❗️I just found five 2-day old kittens and the mama has rejected them. You HAVE to come and get them!
❗️I'm moving in a week so I need you find my cat a good home pretty quick.

While most of those sound like reasonable requests, the problem is "I need", "I want", "you have to". Guess what? We don't. We want to, but we don't have to.

It would be so refreshing to hear:
✅ I would like some advice as to the best and safest way to rehome my cat.
✅ I just found young kittens, what is the best thing for me to do for them?
✅ These cats have to stop breeding. What do I need to do to make that happen?
✅ I know I should have fixed my cat even though she stays indoors, but she accidentally got out and now she's pregnant. What is the best course of action to make sure this doesn't happen again? And how do I go about the process of rehoming the kittens and making sure they are properly vetted?
✅ I found a stray cat that needs medical help. May I come pick up a trap and if I catch him, what do I do next?

You see, rescuers are no different than you. They are just regular folks with a little more knowledge (that they are always happy to share with you!) as well as supplies you may need (that they are happy to loan out!). But there's only a handful of people doing this and they can't be everywhere at once. You have to realize they are dealing with multiple situations and locations DAILY. That's where you have to step in and offer to help them! Afterall, you wouldn't be reaching out to them if you didn't care about the animal as well. You can be just as valuable to that animal in need as they can with the right guidance and supplies. Be that "somebody" the kitty needs.

Last week in review. It was an extremely busy week:

1-We started off with trapping 3 feral kittens in a trailer park and one kitten was down unresponsive in
The yard.

2- Then we got a call about 2 baby birds that were on the ground after the storm Monday night . They weren’t just any bird , they were Woodpeckers . We took in the 2 baby woodpeckers and with the direction of a wildlife rehabber, I went to two different pet stores to finally find the type of worm that they could eat. They were starving. We fed them several times before getting on the road to go meet their transporter. These birds went from Hammond, Louisiana to Thibodaux Louisiana to meet up with the wildlife bird rehabber . Just these birds alone with trying to get the proper diet, and feed them appropriately and the calls meanwhile trying to coordinate them getting to their rehab in Thibodaux. Took was about a four hour process. There is nothing simple or quick about Rescue.

3-We had 7 cats leave out on transport to the North East , this is a very involved process.

4-Phoenix our sweet precious Angel was at AVS all week and didn’t make
It .

5-Tuesday 3 more cats were taken to AVS in Baton Rouge for specialty surgeries:
-one for an eye to be enucleated (she had a mass on her eye )
-one for knee cap ligament repair( knees caps was torn fm the ligament)
-one for teeth extractions .

6-then we got a call about a litter of kittens left at a store that were not safe in the parking lot. We went to pick them up and now have 4 healthy beautiful black male kittens .

7-then on Sunday trapped
Another momma and 3
Kittens in a bad situation with no feeder or
Food source and starving. They were also full or
Worms/paracites .

8- we had 2 other cats go to our vet in Hammond Crossroads Cat Clinic for their spay neuter .

Rescue never stops .
Although the day is over for most . My day continues until all are cared for , medicated or set up fm intake . It’s a lot to do . I stop when it’s done . It’s exhausting and many times people don’t understand . We are not an open intake shelter . We take emergency type
Situation only and
All of these were 😞 IT ALL TAKES TIME AND WORK … this is why we are tired and beg of people to please SPAY/NEUTER.

I am so heartbroken 💔 over Phoenix ….

He was not responsive or improved this morning and the decision was made to let him go.

He was absolutely the most loving and sweetest cat I have ever met. He deserved to sleep in a bed and be a lap. In the AC during the Summer and heat during the winter.

What I do know is that he was given all the care, love and comfort and wanted for nothing in his last few days.

The staff at the vets said : he made biscuits until the very end .

This is what I was told :

All of the staff fell in love and loved on him all week. He was really old but didn’t know exact age. They made sure he always had lots of love all the way to the end and he was always making biscuits for anyone that was around. He was very vocal and talked all the time. He was surrounded by people loving on him as he passed 🩵 and never stopped making biscuits.

Thank you all for everything. We have all loved and made a difference in his life .

He will be cremated and be apart of my life for-ever 🌈🩵💔- Angela

Update on Phoenix :

He began eating some on his own over the last few days, was being vocal and super sweet with the staff at the vet. He has been receiving IV medications and continuous fluids, but has not been strong enough to have any type of anesthesia and surgery.

It is with a heavy heart that we have some bad news to report. He took a turn for the worst this morning. He became unresponsive and unable to maintain his body temperature.
He is in ICU in the incubator, still receiving warm IV fluids and antibiotics. He is closely being monitored . His glucose is unstable and keeps dropping .

This precious guy has endured so much pain and suffering as a stray and we don’t want him to suffer with no quality of life.

God does answer prayers and we are asking for all of you who are praying and following his story, to keep your prayers coming. We are still hoping for a miracle. 🙏🏻🩵🙏🏻

If he does not improve by morning tomorrow, he will be humanely euthanized. He is a fighter and we are pulling for him.

Phoenix’s situation is yet another example of why Spay/Neuter is so important. These unaltered males live such rough lives fighting and spreading diseases that can be prevented. He is FIV positive and has so many old and new scars from simply trying to survive. Males and females on the streets can have such a better life if they are altered 😞

Please continue to pray for “Phoenix” 🙏🏻🩵🙏🏻🩵

He is not out of the woods and has been hospitalized for more extensive supportive treatments and testing.

He looks better but, he is still NOT eating or drinking . He was given SQ fluids, syringe fed, on heat source due to being so emaciated, antibiotics throughout the weekend and transported to one of our vets in Baton Rouge early this morning .

He is still to fragile for any type of surgery. He had labs, X-rays and an ultrasound done today. He is hospitalized and on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. We are hoping he improves and can be cleared for surgery soon. His labs show low protein and X-rays showed possible some fluid in his abdomen. We haven’t received results on his ultrasound that was done to confirm this.

His mouth/teeth and left eye are horrible and needs surgery. He has had some type of facial trauma and jaw has healed unsymmetrical, but this does not hinder him fm opening his mouth. He is very affectionate and vocal in spite of what he has been through. We are hoping his lack of appetite is from pain in his mouth/face, but we don’t have any clear answers yet.

He is an older kitty that has a history with years of neglect and lack of care. He deserves a chance at knowing what life with love and comforts is like.

PHOENIX update :

He is slowly improving 🩵

His eyes look much clearer. He doesn’t have any pus draining from them.

We can see the remnant of his left eye, but it looks very damage and will likely need to be removed at some point . His right eye is clear and looking good.

He is still not eating and having to be syringe fed, but welcomes the feeding and seems to enjoy it. Some cats when they don’t want to eat, will fight the syringe feeding.

He has a big framed body, but is very emaciated. He will be a big boy once filled out.

He is still receiving daily medications and will be for a few weeks. He was severely dehydrated and received some IV fluids last night, which seems to have really perked him up.

In spite of everything he has going on, he continues to be one of the sweetest cats ever. Constantly purring and making biscuits 🩵

Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts. He still has a long road ahead. Once the infection in his mouth, sinuses and eyes is cleared , and he is thriving eating etc, he will have his teeth removed, eye removed and neutered. Right now he is too fragile to have any type of surgery.

He is looking better, but has a long way to go .

‼️This is our intake this afternoon ‼️
Your donations and support help cats like this guy. He was a stray that has been on the streets for a while that nobody claimed 😢‼️

This guy has done nothing but purr and make biscuits while getting his intake medications and treatments.

He is in horrible shape . He has received fluids, 2 antibiotic injections dewormer, advantage multi, capstar, anti inflammatory pain meds, and combo tested .

He has multiple teeth decaying throughout his mouth, one eye is missing fm infection, mucous is so thick he bubbles when he breathes, flea infested , dehydrated, unable to eat, wounds on his head, ear mites, horrible upper respiratory infection , tested positive for FIV and heartworms and SMELLS horrible from infection. Thankfully, he is felv negative . ❤️‍🩹

Please donate to help us continue taking in the cats that are the most in need. Without you, we can’t do what we do. It’s takes every single person and plus some. We are so grateful for everyone’s support.

At a minimum, he will need multiple teeth removed, left eye removed, neutered , several days of supportive therapy with fluids and feedings, ongoing antioxidants and LOTS of TLC, which he more than ever deserves:)

You can donate at the following link and we will receive all the donations , with no fees held out .
