This is a friendly reminder that if your pet (cat or dog) is scared of fireworks, please do not wait until the end of today to request medications. We will be here until 5pm today and will not be back in the office until Friday morning of 7/5. We hope you all have a happy and safe holiday!
š¾DID YOU KNOW?š¾
š§ØMore pets go missing during the July 4th weekend than any other time, and we are talking THOUSANDS. While the actual numbers are hard to nail down, the ASPCA estimates a 1 in 5 pets going missing. We always want for our babies to spend family time with us, but letās face itā¦ Fireworks are SCARY for pets. They donāt understand them and if you think about it, it sounds like bombs going off. Many times they will take off in frantically, which ups their chances of getting hit by a car or severely injured.
š¤So what can we do to help? If your pet wears a collar, make sure they have updated tags with their name and your info on it. Having your pet microchipped helps increase the chance of them being relocated if found and brought to a rescue/shelter/vet clinic. Microchips are easily and quickly placed, giving you the peace of mind should anything happen. We will even register their number to a FREE online database!
š Consider creating a āsafe placeā for your pet. Somewhere that they are comfortable, but also somewhere they canāt accidentally get outside. If your pet is easily upset by loud noises or storms, there are also medications that can aid in keeping them calm during stressful situations.
šGive us a call if you donāt have your pet microchipped. And if you think medications may help, let us know and we can talk! Keeping your pets healthy and happy is our passion. Donāt let your pet become a statistic!

June is National Adopt a Cat Month. We are honored to have Purrs of Hope as a rescue that trusts us with their veterinary care, spay/neuters, TNR, and everything in between. If you or someone you know is thinking of adding a cuddly fur ball into their home, please get in touch with Purrs of Hope. We see the love and care that is given to each and every cat that comes into their care. No matter their history, which are often rough starts, they are loved from day one. Even if you arenāt looking for a new friend, consider donating. Every penny counts, and it goes to caring for cats in our area that have often been discarded, by no fault of their own.

Letās talk about the one thing that every south Louisianan can agree on. How did we manage to get the state bird wrong? Weāre taught that the pelican is Louisianaās state bird of choice. But I think we can all agree that itās actually mosquitoes. While theyāre known worldwide to carry diseases like Malaria, Zika and West Nile in people, itās important to be educated on how they can affect our pets. Those pesky little (and letās be real, sometimes HUGE) winged insects can carry one of the most fatal parasites to our four legged friends, the dreaded heartworm. Heartworm disease one of the most common and serious diseases that affects both dogs AND cats.ā¦ and sadly, can be fatal. Our area in particular is one of the worst āhotbedsā of heartworm disease, with several species even becoming resistant to older heartworm preventatives. Scroll through to learn more, and if you have any questions about your petās status and/or current prevention, give us a shout!

š¤Letās get real for a secondā¦.
š¾Do you get anxiety when itās time to bring your furry friend to the vet?
š¾Is it absolute chaos getting multiple pets to and from the vet?
š¾Is your normally angelic pet a less than perfect patient when visiting the clinic? No judgment here, we absolutely understand!
š¾Do you just not enjoy the overall experience of getting to and from appointments? LET US COME TO YOU! Our house call service brings with it an overall calmed experience than that of other clinics who, by no fault of their own, are just more chaotic as a whole. Many pets are overwhelmed by the sounds, smells (both medical and animal) as well as having other animals around. Our goal is to provide the same thorough experience you get in clinic, without all of the usual stressors. Both owners and pets are left feeling a sigh of relief that comes with being in their normal environment.
š¾If youāre looking for a different way to do things, give us a call! Weāve been proudly serving our parish and surrounding areas since 2019!
Happy Tuesday! Your favorite neighborhood cat ladies want to wish you a very special holiday. National hug your cat day! We know they arenāt all supportive of hugs, BUTā¦ letās see some babies! š» Just donāt get scratched in the process! š¹
We all know it... the dreaded sight of watching your pet scratch endlessly. More often than not, this is from fleas. Some owners will never see the actual flea(s) on their pet. Animals, especially cats, can be incredible groomers... getting rid of the flea as soon as it bites. In fact, some pets are so sensitive to a flea bite that it takes just one bite to send them into a frenzy of itching... sometimes resulting in self trauma from scratching or hot spots, which many times lead to the need for antibiotics and/or steroids. Whether your pet is indoor/outdoor, or exclusively indoors... it is important to keep them on year round flea protection.
Need to get your pet up to date on flea prevention? Give us a call!

Great read. As a community, if you see a problem.. try to be a part of the solution. Rescues (as well as clinics) are trying their absolute best to help with population control, but too many times get blamed for not doing enough.
I would like to apologize to you for every animal rescuer you feel has ever let you down, been less than cheerful or said no to helping you. I would also like to explain to you why you need to extend grace to all of them. ā¤ļø
They are all volunteers. This means on top of their normal lives (YES! Rescuers have jobs, spouses, children, friends, parents, pets of their own, foster animals, cars that break down, doctors appointments, grass to mow, laundry to fold, etc.) they CHOOSE to help people because they deeply care about the welfare of animals.
All day long they hear or read:
āļøOh my gosh, please go help that poor cat right now!
āļøI really need your help! I've got 8 cats here and 2 are pregnant.
āļøI couldn't afford to get my cat fixed, but she is indoor only so I thought it was fine. But she got out and now she's pregnant. I need you to help me get her fixed and I'll give the kittens away.
āļøI need you to come out and get rid of all these cats!
āļøI just found five 2-day old kittens and the mama has rejected them. You HAVE to come and get them!
āļøI'm moving in a week so I need you find my cat a good home pretty quick.
While most of those sound like reasonable requests, the problem is "I need", "I want", "you have to". Guess what? We don't. We want to, but we don't have to.
It would be so refreshing to hear:
ā
I would like some advice as to the best and safest way to rehome my cat.
ā
I just found young kittens, what is the best thing for me to do for them?
ā
These cats have to stop breeding. What do I need to do to make that happen?
ā
I know I should have fixed my cat even though she stays indoors, but she accidentally got out and now she's pregnant. What is the best course of action to make sure this doesn't happen again? And how do I go about the process of rehoming the kittens and making sure they are properly vetted?
ā
I found a stray cat that needs medical help. May I come pick up a trap and if I catch him, what do I do next?
You see, rescuers are no different than you. They are just regular folks with a little more knowledge (that they are always happy to share with you!) as well as supplies you may need (that they are happy to loan out!). But there's only a handful of people doing this and they can't be everywhere at once. You have to realize they are dealing with multiple situations and locations DAILY. That's where you have to step in and offer to help them! Afterall, you wouldn't be reaching out to them if you didn't care about the animal as well. You can be just as valuable to that animal in need as they can with the right guidance and supplies. Be that "somebody" the kitty needs.
šøLet's get social! We are also on Instagram šŗ
With all of the festivities, cookouts and get togethers this Memorial Day weekend, letās not forget the true reason behind this day. To all of the brave souls, both two and four legged, we thank you for your sacrifice. Freedom is never truly free.

While this is never a fun conversation to have with owners, it is an important one that could potentially save your petās life.
šAs hot weather sets in and we are spending more time outdoors grilling/cooking out with friends and family, letās talk about table food and your pet. We all know those sad, puppy dog eyes (itās like they just KNOW how to stare into our souls) as they longingly stare at us for a taste of our mealā¦ and yes, they can be very convincing and some of us think to ourselves ābut what harm could one little bite do?āā¦ Thatās when its time to recognize the potential harm of letting them indulge in our food. Pet food has been specially formulated for your petās health, with fat and carbohydrate content taken into mind. The foods that we eat are much richer in both, which can cause some serious issues in both our canine and feline friendsā¦ sometimes leading to hospitalization, and in some cases death.
āļøThis summer, and every season, just say no to table food. Your pet may not realize it, but it could save their life!
And if youāre curious about healthier snacks to offer during summer festivities, think more about baby carrotsš„, lettuceš„¬, applesš and blueberriesš«.

If you've met Betty, then you KNOW she knows a thing or two about being a pampered feline! Show us your spoiled babies to celebrate getting through Hump Day!
Don't let our name fool you, while we put a focus on our feline friends... We also see dogs and love meeting new canine friends! We are a full service veterinary clinic that also offers house call services for patients who can be difficult to transport to the vet, or get too nervous once at the vet. We are an appointment only clinic that strives to cater to each patient while they are in our care... meaning that when you make an appointment, we schedule your pet's visit so that we can have a one on one connection with both you and your pet. No phones ringing off the hook, dogs barking in the clinic, or the anxiety that can come with a lobby full of other pets and their owners. We want for each patient and their human companion to feel relaxed and comfortable while at our facility.
Looking for a more stress free vet experience? Or do you know a dog/owner that might benefit from visiting a quiet clinic, or even have us come to them? Give them our number and we'd be happy to see how we can help!

āAs we enter what is expected to be a very active hurricane season, it is important to not only be prepared for ourselves, but especially our pets. Here is a helpful checklist to get you and your fur baby prepared for whatever our crazy weather may bring.
šAlways make sure your pets are up to date with vaccinations to ensure no hiccups should you have to evacuate with them. Need to update their vaccinations? Call or text us at (225)241-1908 and we can get you scheduled.
š¹I just wanted to let my clients know that I will not be in the clinic Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 25. I am taking my daughter on a trip to celebrate her Sweet 16 (how did she get this old I will NEVER know). Brittany will be in and out of the clinic during this time, so please call or message if needing refills on medications and to schedule a pick up time or appointment time for the following week.
š¹As always, if you should have an emergency, please contact MedVet Mandeville at 985-626-4862.
āØ Thank you all for continuing to trust me with your pets! āØ
See you when I get back!

Bet you didn't know it's the last day of National Scoop the P**p week. Pet waste might not be the most pleasant topic, but itās an essential responsibility for all pet parents. Hereās why:
Environmental Impact: Dogs and other petsā waste can cause significant damage to our environment over time if left unattended. Itās a major source of bacteria, contributes to air pollution with pungent smells, and carries diseases and worms. When rain comes, these particles get washed into our waterways, contaminating our water1.
Not Great Fertilizer: Contrary to popular belief, pet f***s arenāt a great fertilizer.
Health Risks: Leaving pet waste around can lead to health risks for other animals, insects, and even pedestrians who accidentally step in it.
How to Observe National Scoop the P**p Week:
Clean Up After Your Pet: Be proactive in cleaning up after your furry friend whenever youāre out and about. Itās not just a logical responsibility; itās also an eco-friendly way to live.
So, letās all do our part and keep our surroundings clean!
It's National Pet ID Week. Let's talk about Microchips. A microchip is a rice-sized radio-frequency identification device (RFID), that is quickly and painlessly inserted under your pet's skin. It is not a GPS, but a permanent form of ID, which holds info about the pet and its owner. When scanned by a vet, shelter, or some police stations, the microchip transmits a unique ID number to the reader.
A microchip is only effective if itās registered, and the contact information is correct and up to date. Meaning, if youāve never registered your petās microchip, or youāve moved and neglected to update your registration, it unfortunately wonāt do you ā or your pet ā any good.
It is estimated that one in three pets will go missing in their lifetime. This equals about 10 million missing pets each year in the U.S. Unfortunately, many of those pets wonāt make it home.
During National Pet ID Week, pet owners are encouraged to ensure their furry companions are equipped with ID tags and/or microchips. These simple measures significantly increase the chances of a safe return if a pet strays from home or gets lost during a vacation. Remember, a little prevention can go a long way in keeping our beloved pets safe and sound!
Is your pet microchipped? If not let's chat.
