Currently, Pennsylvania allows fireworks to be discharged at any time which causes extreme stress on animals and does not allow pet guardians to prepare. Rep. Frank Farry's bill, which passed the and and is now on the way to the Governor modifies the fireworks law to allow local government to set restrictions to specify distance requirements from occupied buildings and animal housing facilities or livestock paddock areas and require a written notification 72 hours in advance before setting the fireworks off. Thanks to all the legislators who supported this bill and Representative Frank Farry for his leadership!

The fireworks bill is on the Governor’s desk. Although we would have liked to see it become effective immediately, it will take effect 60 days from when the Governor signs it. If he does so promptly, although it will not impact the July 4th celebrations this weekend, it will be in effect for Labor Day on September 5th.
