As the weather warms up, it's important to keep a few things in mind for the health and safety of our pets. Here are some tips to consider:

1. Staying up to date on prevention! Prevention should be year round, but warm weather especially brings out ticks, fleas, and other parasites.
2. Hydration! Ensure your pets have access to plenty of fresh water to stay hydrated.
3. Heat safety! Be mindful of heat exhaustion and heatstroke in pets, especially in hot cars or during strenuous exercise.
4. Many of us look forward to travels and outdoor adventures with our furry companions. Make sure your pet is microchipped with up to date information!

April is Heartworm Awareness Month! 🦟

Heartworms are a serious and potentially deadly disease. They are caused by parasitic worms that live in the heart and lungs. It's crucial to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, detection, and treatment of heartworms.

Here are some key facts and tips:

- Heartworms are spread through the bite of an infected mosquito.
- Prevention is key! Use heartworm preventatives, as directed by your veterinarian. Treatment can be risky and expensive, so prevention is the best approach.
- Get your pet tested annually for heartworms, even if they're on preventatives year round.
- Heartworms can be present in a dog's body for months or even years before symptoms appear. It's a sneaky parasite!

By that time, the heartworms can cause damage to the dog's heart, lungs, and blood vessels.

Some common symptoms of heartworm disease include: coughing, fatigue, and difficulty breathing.

Let's spread the word and protect our furry friends from heartworms!
