Oftentimes we hear complaints from owners regarding their dog's behaviors and decisions because they truly don't understand where their dog is coming from. We've still got A LOT to learn about canines and their psychology but we also know a lot currently! Try to meet your dog where they are and understand that your dog is doing THEIR best every day. I promise once you understand how your dog sees the world, things get that much easier.
Step by step guide of what to do if you're charged by an off leash dog: 🔘 Practice what you'll do BEFORE you have to do it. You'll be more prepared to make logical decisions in a high stress situation. 🔘 Stay calm. If your dog is with you, you don't want to freak them out any more than they already will be with a dog running right at them. 🔘 If you can't put your dog in a down SAFELY and leash up the oncoming dog, get between that dog and your dog and get ready to advocate. Take a big step forward and shout firmly "NO!". This should stun the dog enough for you and your dog to make a safe exit. Be sure you are between your dog and other dog the entire time. You may have to repeat this step if the off leash dog follows you. 🔘 If all else fails—and I am not joking—do what you need to do to get that dog away from you and your dog.
