In 1981, Martha Nicholson purchased an old barber shop at her own expense and opened The Cat Corner in Hampton, Virginia. The Cat Corner is a no-kill, non-profit cat shelter for homeless cats, that has been operated by volunteers since 1981 and is solely funded by donations. Cats are accepted into the

shelter as space becomes available and each receives proper medical care, will be spayed/neutered and updated on their shots prior to becoming available for adoption. Adopting families are screened and care is taken to closely match cats and their new families to insure a good fit. It would be unfair to the cat to get attached to a family...only to be brought back to the shelter. We do ask though, if it is not a good fit or there is a change of circumstances and you can no longer provide care for you cat, please bring them back to the Cat Corner and to not take them anywhere else. Please come by and visit the kitties, we are always looking for dedicated volunteers and wonderful forever homes for our kitty residents. Cats know the song in your heart and purr it to you when your memory fails.

Meet Nani!
This gorgeous, demure, and playful dilute tortie girl is truly a beautiful sight to behold! Our Nani is as caring and warm as the character she gets her name from! One of her most favorite activities is giving her brother and sister a good bath! If she is not keeping her siblings sparkly clean, you can usually find her batting around a ball with gusto or lounging in a kitty hammock. Not only is this little girl as tender as she is pretty, but also has an adorable chirp that will absolutely melt your heart! This sweet baby and her siblings went through an intensive journey to become trusting and calm around humans after beginning their lives in the vast outdoors, and have truly blossomed into the most wonderful and perfect companions. While Nani is extremely bonded to her siblings Lilo and Stitch, she would also thrive in a home with her special human to love and create a trusting and comforting companionship with. Nani has also made great friends with her Husky foster brother, and would do wonderfully in a home with a gentle and loving pup! This beautiful girl is a true joy to know and has brought such love and purpose to her foster momma’s life, and she cannot wait to spread that light in her fur-ever home!

Meet Screech O’ Malley!
This handsome man earned his name by screeching whenever he wanted attention. It's his way of letting you know that he wants food, belly rubs, or snuggles. Unlike his siblings, Screech is not a fan of wet food but will absolutely try to take the eggs from your breakfast plate, they're just so tasty! He is energetic and loves to play with hanging toys and tunnels, as well as chasing his siblings around. He makes an excellent inspector and will watch as you clean his litter box so that he knows it has been done properly. You couldn't ask for a better supervisor! Screech has done well in a foster home with a dog and would be happiest in a home with another kitty playmate. Could Screech be the perfect fit for your family?

Meet Martini!
While Martini and her sister Bellini look almost identical, you can tell them apart as Martini is a little lighter in color and has more of the muted orange in her fur. She is a super sweet and snuggly girl that loves to be near her people and is quick to purr when being pet. She is even sometimes happy to be held like a baby. She loves any toy she can chase around, including the ever elusive red dot! If you're lucky she'll roll over and let you pet her soft tummy, although this sometimes activates play mode. While Martini loves spending time with people, she would be happiest in a home with another kitty playmate. Could she be the perfect fit for your family?

Meet Sadie! 😍 This little girl has the most unique markings! She absolutely loves to play with toys… especially string toys that her foster mom moves and plays with her with. She also loves pets on her cheeks and on her back. She will roll around when she’s really getting into her scratches haha. She also loves the company of other cats. She is a little shy when warming up to you. She prefers a quieter, more calm home environment. When there is too much going on, she hides under her bed like a little turtle 🐢. She is being fostered with a calm, small dog and seems curious about him. She does not seem interested at all being around younger children (because she loves her calm, quiet environment). Taking in bottle kittens takes a special foster that can syringe or bottle feed kitten formula every 2 to 3 hours (sometimes more frequently depending on age/ medical requirements). They also cannot regulate their own body heat or “potty” on their own and require help going potty… as well as burping. It’s A LOT of work when they are this young and without their mother. We prefer them to stay with their mother but sometimes emergencies happen and little ones are orphaned or separated from mom too soon. No more babies for this little mama! Through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, feral or "community" cats are humanely trapped, scanned for microchip, spayed/neutered, given a rabies vaccination, and ear-tipped (clipping of one ear under anesthesia and is the universal signal for being spayed/neutered). While recovering, we evaluate each cat to see if they are a stray cat who has somehow lost its home or if they are considered a true feral. If he/she is not feral and is considered adoptable, we will bring him/her to the shelter to try to find them a home. True feral cats are returned to their territory where caretakers provide them with regular food, water, and shelter. Young kittens that are trapped in our TNR efforts are brought into our foster care program for socialization and medical care to prepare them for adoption.
