In honor of National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day, here are some tips to make your next visit less stressful!

1. Introduce the carrier as a part of their everyday environment a couple of days before the appointment
2. Speak in a calm voice to keep your feline friend calm
3. Offer treats or verbal praise for good behavior
4. Ask your veterinarian if additional support or tips are needed!

Mosquitoes can cause parasitic infestations, viral infections, and bacterial infections in our pets, including Heartworm. Keeping your pet up to date on their veterinary care AND preventatives can help keep them safe. Even in areas where mosquitos aren't super common!

Good afternoon, I hope everyone has fared well through all the rain. I am happy to announce that the clinic and staff are all doing well currently, and only minor flooding in certain areas between us and the clinic. As such, we have decided that as long as weather conditions do not deteriorate overnight, we plan to re-open regular hours on Thursday, Aug 8th (8am-7pm). Priority will be given to those that were asked to reschedule their appointments over the last few days, and sick patients while we have open availability. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding with the schedule changes, as it shows that you value the safety of our staff as much as we do! We are looking forward to being back and taking care of our furry friends a little earlier than planned! However, please don't wait if your pet has something serious going on (respiratory issues, extreme lethargy or vomiting, acute eye issues); in that case please reach out to one of the following emergency vets: Charleston Veterinary Referral Center at 843-614-8387 or Blue Pearl at 843-216-7554. Continue to stay safe and take care of each other!

8/7 Update: Clinic reopening Thursday, 8/8 at 8am, with priority being given to rescheduled appointments and sick patients.

Good morning, hope everyone is staying safe and dry out there! We have decided to close at noon today instead of 2pm. Between road closures and flooding, we need to ensure our staff is able to get home safely to ride out this storm. Currently, our plan is to leave early today and remain closed tomorrow, and Thursday, and reopen regular hours on Friday as long as our staff can safely get here and back home. If there are changes to that plan, I will update both on Facebook, and via PetDesk (our mobile app).

I always say that we have the best clients, but I was given another opportunity to see it in action today! I want to give a huge shout-out to one of our clients, and one of Hanahan's heroes, Tim, for being out in the rain, helping our local community fill and load sandbags. The whole crew out there was incredibly kind and helpful. To all the folks out there that are helping the community prepare- you are appreciated beyond measure.

With the incoming rain and expected flooding over the next few days, we will be altering our hours to ensure the safety of our employees. We will be open as regularly scheduled today, but will likely be closing early tomorrow, and remaining closed Weds, possibly Thursday into Friday until we know that we can safely get to and from work. If you currently have a routine appointment scheduled, and are willing to reschedule so we can assist some of the sicker pets in our community prior to this storm, please call 843-414-7455. I will post the altered schedule for this week as soon as it is confirmed.

Did you know, more pets go missing July 4th weekend than any other time of the year? Fireworks and loud noises can cause pets to run away. If your pet isn't microchipped, we strongly recommend booking your appointment, as it greatly increases the chances of reunification should your pet run away. If your pet is microchipped, be sure the contact information is up to date and they have a tag on their collar with emergency information!

It is highly probable that fireworks will start going off this weekend (if they haven't already), and continue through next weekend. Please keep these safety tips in mind as we prepare for the upcoming holiday. If your pet is extra anxious, you may want to consider an oral sedative that can be prescribed by your veterinarian. Also, there are sure to be lots of cookouts- please be careful of what foods are shared with your pets. Consider pet-friendly alternatives if you want your furry friend to be included in the shenanigans, and make your guests aware of what they are allowed to have! They sell doggie ice cream in some stores, and some fruits and veggies make a great alternative to hot dogs- please research what is safe and what is not before offering it as a treat! Wishing everyone, furry friends included, a safe and happy holiday!
