Did you know we weigh all of our Bluebonnet feed❓

We experimented! Even with the same scoop, “to the second line” can vary up to 5ozs. The +/- difference can make an impact on your horse’s wellbeing.

But how much does he ACTUALLY get.....? 😅

I recommend weighing your horse's feed and feeding according to bag recommendations for body weight and activity level. These scoops are both "3 quart scoops" but even with the same feed, the weight is different. You could be under feeding, which means your horse would be lacking in essential vitamins and minerals.

Or! You could be over feeding. And that could mean that you are spending more money on feed when you could be spending that on entry fees 😎

The answer? Keep a cheap electronic kitchen food scale in your feed room. You can buy them for less than $15 on Amazon.

Even with an indoor, riding during a winter weather event can be challenging. Modified turnout schedules, low temperatures, and young horses don’t always make for a productive ride. However, the weather allowed us to focus on some of our non-riding low impact training and fitness activities. 🏋️

Strength training for horses is essential to improve their overall fitness, performance, and longevity. It helps build muscle, improve endurance, and reduce the risk of injuries. Proper strength training enhances a horse’s ability to perform, while also supporting soundness and biomechanics.

We also like to incorporate strength training with our horses using ground work and lunging sessions. Doing strength training without a rider is particularly helpful for young, unfit, or rehabilitating horses because it provides fitness benefits without the strain of a rider’s weight. Without the rider, young horses get the opportunity to figure it out themselves without the rider’s help or mistakes. 💪🏻🏋🏼‍♂️
